My Previous Video on Sims 5:
Sims 5 is deep into its development, according to Sims Community news. I’ll give you the details about Sims 5 speculation about using an Unreal Unity engine, new Sims career postings, and all the news about the launch of a potential Sims 5. I’ll also give you my honest opinion about what needs to happen for Sims 4/ what I want to see in 2021 before Sims 5 is announced.

All of this comes while Sims 4 has a promising new stuff pack, Paranormal Stuff, but is still broken, full of glitches, in need of a big Sims 4 update, and has broken Sims 4 skin tones. Sims 4 may still need more work, but it is unclear if wishlist items like generations, werewolves, farming, hotels, high schools, and bands/ music will come or not.

Stay tuned to Simmer Erin for Sims 4 and 5 news, info and speculation. I also do dlc ranked, wishlists, and occasionally let you know about the best Sims 4 mods/ cc. Plus, I cover Paralives news and updates, as well as Paralives interviews.

  1. I really hope it’s not gonna be subscription based. I’m also not sure how I would feel about multiplayer. I like building my own worlds. So yeah not too happy w/ today’s news.

BTW, my Monday went good. It’s really icy here.

  2. lol if this comes out as an online multiplayer game with a damn subscription service (and i say this as a person who pays for two ffxiv subs!) i hope it'll be the final straw in ea giving players stuff they absolutely didn't ask for. something that tone deaf deserves to flop.

  3. …i just realized. most online games nowadays will detect 3rd party content to keep people from cheating. if they make the sims 5 into an online game connected to their servers, they could totally make custom content a ban-worthy offense (or even keep the game from starting if it's detected) in order to force more people to buy their dlc. that is horrifying.

  4. Yep. I guessed that this would happen. Other companies might be able to pull it off and keep my interest, but not EA. It's a deal breaker for me, if it is what it looks like. Not because it's online in particular, but because of EAs inescapable behaviour. There may well be tiers, and DLS like behaviour, eg some people will be able to build awesome stuff and have much more flexibility provided by their subscriptions and others won't. Either that or it will be a pay-wall-type 'pay for what you want' deal. Both setups will provide a REALLY, REALLY unfair system between the 'haves' and the 'have nots' and the second is pretty unthinkable in terms of any type of game I'm remotely interested in getting involved with – even if they offered the base game for free, they'd be making up the difference on the extras you'd have to pay for to make the game remotely interesting to play. The third option is that everyone pays for ALL the content, whether they want it or not. People would end up paying A LOT more for this type of game. As if their DLC weren't 4 times the price they should have been with respect to the market. I am waiting rather impatiently for Paralives. Thirdly, I'll possibly be back in Australia by then, with dinosaur internet (Australia has VERY dinosaur era internet speeds – about 2MEGs – yes, that's not a typo – a second. There's no way it's gonna run well on that).

The only positive that I can think of is that they will HAVE to make the game worth playing to get people in. I'm guessing that Paralives will be released around the same time. Lots of people will be saying, "Hmmm.. The Sims 5 with the pay wall etc, or Paralives…" They'll really have to make a game people want, if they want people to pay for it, instead of simply buying Paralives…

  5. You saw 5 job openings, and only 1 of them actually mentioned Sims. You saw Maxis, and automatically assumed Sims. Who knows, it might be Maxis working on a new Darkspore online, with subscription services, and space vehicles. It could be Maxis doing something entirely different, using Unreal Engine. I can't really imagine Sims going on Unreal Engine, or going online after the flop that Sims Online was. I can't imagine a subscription service. I'm betting on EA/ Maxis doing a new RPG/ Action/ Adventure, and not any sort of simulation. Anything you saw mentioning Sims was in that single job opening. You are reading far too much into this, combining 6 job openings into wishful thinking.

  6. Well if it is online only and subscription, then that will be me done, no way I can afford packs and subscription aswell! Played sims 2001 got all the pc games and a few console, but not throwing money at it. I will just stick with the others.

  7. Also, fully online would kill the modding community. I have yet to see an online game, that allows you to use mods – No CC, No Custom Careers, No Ui improvements, No MCCC style mods. 🙁

  8. I agree an online, micro transactional game is not what I want for my next sims game. It will, I believe, put it beyond the financial reach of the demographic EA wishes to attract. Still that has not stopped EA from doing it to other games. As for the senior CAS director. If the post is truly for the next Sims release then it might mean EA has already selected the art style. Personally I am appalled at the lack of player consultation on this point. I will not be buying if the Sims in any way resemble the TS4 Sims with their inane facial expressions, helmet hair and peculiar walks.

  9. Subscription service is only good if it is done right. EA won't do it right. EA would do a subscription that cost more than $15 tax included, the game would also be cash shop heavy and then they would make you pay for the expansion packs. Their subscription based game would be run like a free to play game with a sub attached to it. Sort of how Black desert is a free to play game with a buy to play feature slapped on it. lol

I do play a sub game already, and let me just say that the sky is literally the limit in that game. You pay the sub and the entire game is at your finger tips, all the clothes, housing items, and world content is yours to play with. You can craft clothes as a tailor instead of buying it in cash shop, pretty much everything in the game is obtained by playing the game. They drop a large expansion every couple of years which is pricey but worth it as they don't drop one every 15min like the way sims 4 expansion packs drop, and the expansions add on to the content, giving you more dungeons, mounts, clothes and story to experience. I don't have to buy a new pack for 1 shirt or feature I really like b.c a sub game isn't trying to find ways to strip content from a game to make me pay for it. There is a cash shop, but it is manged right and doesn't outshine the content in game, so you really only buy there if you really want to.

But EA won't do that, so you all should be afraid of sims 5 being a sub…very afraid. xD

  10. If the Sims 5 will be subscription-based, I will just stick to playing older Sims games and watching YouTubers play the Sims 5. Gallery in ts4 is a great online feature, and it's still a mess (with useless filtering and constant breaking).
But maybe if they make the Sims 5 a decent online game, it will have new fans who like this type of gameplay

  11. i really don’t want the sims 5 to look hyper-realistic like the clips in the beginning. i like the cartoony look and simplicity of the sims 4. +i’m not an expert on computer stuff, but the graphics looked so detailed it would probably be really hard to run on lower end pcs
(i’m talking about the clips in the very beginning of this video)

  12. I wonder when Sims 5 fits into the Sims timeline or if it will in an alternative universe like Sims 4. I actually don't mind DLC, microtransactions could be okay for like certain items, but I do NOT want a subscription. I'm bindging your videos right now Erin lol

  13. no way i’m paying for a subscription service. not doing it, sorry. it’ll make sims4 the last generation of sims game I own which would be really sad. also i’m sure if they go that direction it’ll include micro transactions too, another big no for me

  14. The only online capability I want other than an expanded gallery is just the ability to invite my friend to my world and like, build a lot together or play live mode together. Basically like the Sims 4 Multiplayer mod; subscription services are the bane of video games, I swear. I gotta say, that whole subscription thing is a huge red flag for me, personally, and gives me anxiety about whatever this game is going to be.

  15. Subscription services? If it is indeed for the next Sims game, I'll pass. How could that work? Would you have to get all the new content; Rather than just get what you want? But if they want it online, you kinda need everyone to have the same content. And that model, just doesn't sound like it would work for the Sims.

At some point, when a franchise lasts for an extended period of time, it has a chance to become something that is no longer for you. Example: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. I loved the original comic, cartoon, and movies. But all the new iterations… meh to ugh!, they ain't for me. (Except the 2003 cartoon series, it was ok once I realized they relied heavily on the original comics.)

Thanks for the news as always. 🙂👍

  16. Literally the only thing I wish we could do is take one of our sims and visit our friend’s lots/hang out with them like how you can visit islands in AC:NH. I wanna see my besties house and have her show me around 😭 😂

  17. I suspect that Sims 5 will also have a single-player mode and the subscription system will be for players who want to play online, a little like with PlayStation 4 (I don't know about the 5th one), you need to subscribe to have access to online functionalities.

  18. I've used subscription services but only for online games like the elder Scrolls online, and draw wars the old Republic. That's the only other thing I think it could be is an online Sims game or have a online element that requires a subscription service

  19. If it’s subscription service that is a part of EA play which I already get with game pass I’m OK with it because I think they would give additional value to EA play.

It depends on how they do the subscription model and what the subscription covers. I wouldn’t want it to be like Sims FreePlay where things you really need to have fun are locked behind multiple $50 paywalls and that’s my fear of them and a subscription model. Plus I think given current world events a one time purchase is a better option.

  20. Id prefer subscription over tons and tons of dlcs. Imagine having an actual completed game with seasons and pets and so on without having to get all of the dlcs. You'd start in a game with content. I love playing the sims just as much as I love watching Netflix so this would be okay for me. This way new players can join more easily without having to save up to buy tons of packs before the game actually feels enjoyable.

  21. Nope not happening Sims. I know what I'm getting from netflix and hulu (Quality content, thousands of movies, ect). With the sims series I know I'm getting a glitchy ass game with little to no content for monthly 10-15 dollars. I'm waiting for paralives… They get more shit done then any of the sims team. JUST LOOK AT THE STILL PATCHY SKIN TONES.

  22. I'm just worried about the whole new team at Maxis that will work on the Sims 5 while the Sims 4 is also being worked on. This means the team working on the sims 5 won't have in person experience of any of the issues in the sims 4 or the community's desires. Hopefully the teams will at least communicate closely.

  23. if they do sims 5 as a subscription base then I'm out. I'm tired of getting screwed over money wise for a game that's supposed to be a "good" simulation game.. can't exactly do a simulation game as an mmog at least not one where you can have families and such.. and if I recall correctly didn't they take down the fb sim game for reasons that it wasn't successful… how is this going to be any different? I like the feature of the gallery which is a nice online feature but that's the only online thing I can see working for a sandbox simulation game.

  24. I feel like multiplayer would be good if it was like Animal Crossing. You can visit your friend’s lots and visa versa, but still play without it.

The subscription is an absolute no though if it was just to access the game! I play sims for maybe 3 consecutive days every couple of months, a subscription would not be worth it to me.

Now, if the subscription was just to use the online multiplayer component, just like Animal Crossing (which is about £3 a month), then I’d be happy to pay this as and when I wanted to play online.

  25. Renting items is not a good idea, adding on to the purchasing of packs over time . I rather not, buy if it’s sub . It should be optional however ,not required for those who don’t wish to sub .

  26. I already had an issue with the multiplayer possiblity…but a sub service is a no go for me. I am not okay any games that require a sub service. When I buy a game i buy the game not a month to month. I play on PC not on console so I will be moving passed sims 5 is that what this is. Aa a side note, if i wanted a life sim game, multiplayer that is online i would have been playing second life all thime not spending all my money on sims.

  27. Whatever subscription services are for, I would NOT want to make monthly payments for the game! Especially now that I'm living on my own! What if I want to take a break from the game? Am I going to miss things just because I'm not making monthly payments?! Sounds like a rip off! I should be able to play the game on my own time and money.

  28. The only way a subscription could be good is…
(I personally think this is to try to help against torrenting s for the sims 4 has been one of the top torrented games since it came out)

    A. The Subscription is ONLY for packs like a yearly you get all the packs and extra content for ___$
    B. Packs no longer exist and the game and ALL content they release for it comes with a CHEAP subscription fee
