Today I will talk about Jackie Welles in Cyberpunk 2077. This character has been heavily underutilized in the game and that can potentially create narrative problems for the intro to Night City and beyond.

It's disappointing that you don't get more missions with Jackie and Tbug. It's also disappointing that Dex's betrayal seems to only play out one way
yeah I think that the montage should've been a bunch of little things with jackie, they could've had them end and start at his place where you wake up however many days later to do some mission.
jackie and t-bug become very hard to connect with with how things are so short and how while doing the heist almost no matter what you do things get super hostile.
this is kind of the issue with the shortness of the story and not even the main story but things would feel so much more alive if they added a few side quests that touched on some of the stories that left things either undetermined or left you questioning what happened.
most of the characters are amazing but you can see which ones where seemingly thrown together last second and ones that were planned for a while, many many things in the game feel half done or at least missing the ending. spoilers under this.
sorry for the long message the issues just stick out so bad when you play this game multiple times over and have hundreds of hours in any game you'll find the issues, or when you play the game like a QA tester doing everything.
judys picture never arrives, you never meet randy, there is no real npc schedule system (not npcs walking the streets but the important npcs, most games have the npcs move around at least a little but the linearity of cyberpunk has them move with the story), if judy leaves from her questline being complete she is still in her apartment, I could go on and on about the story pieces missing or broken, multiple assets are missing, the way the endings are leaves the whole game feeling super super linear and barely an RPG with meaningful choices, with most dialogue options either leading to the same sentence being said or the options being framed like there is an option to begin with.
dont get me wrong the game is good for what it is if you can play it but I forget who it was said the thing needed 2 more years in the oven you can see some things that were cut whether they weren't done or not even made yet we wont know but the way it looks from the outside it was more that things weren't made, if things were all cut it was done with a scalpel because most things were finished.
you can see the missing things its just sad we might never see everything that was meant to be in even with all the dlc and story expansions. that "CDPR magic" didnt do them to well so hope with this terrible launch and whatever happens with those lawsuits puts them back on track to make the game they marketed.
love your vids cant wait for the next ones on the dlc whenever we learn more. there was a few frames that were a little bugged out, they shifted right in the middle of the screen for like 5 frames barely noticed.
Yes, I agree with you. The cut scene being a summary we simply watched flicker in front of our eyes, was in my opinion a missed opportunity not only to help us develop the relation with Jackie and solidify that special friendship, but also robs us of learning about the city, the nature of mercenary job's from outsider's point of view (beginner level/new player, but also life path: nomad, etc). It would allow for more immersion into the life path but also to EXPERIENCE the growth as a character.
I think the real reason CDPR made the main story too short is for the same reason they released it unfinished. They wanted to rush it out the door as quickly as possible.
I wonder whether Jackie supposed to have a bigger role before CDPR decided to go ALL IN with Keanu Reeves. That trailer now felt like a warning, "Don't get too attach to Jackie! We got a celebrity for you to play with!" Honestly, with the way things currently are, I would have preferred playing with Jackie through out the game.
There are lots of things we could point out that are wrong or we have problems with as far as the game goes….but he has a point
honestly I almost stopped playing the game because the did Jack dirty.
Yep, totally agree on that one. It would have been great to have Jackie until the end of the game and then kill him after all the bond you have created with him. His death was so rushed.
I was so pissed when he died. The game lost the best character and from then on I was feeling completely alone through the entire game. I was empty playing it. You didn't have any true friend or "amigo" as him through the rest of the duration of the game.
Other than jackie, the other npcs have already made it up for me. So i think they done a good job for writing such interesting characters.
I like spoilers!!! Hahaha nice.
You're absolutely right. I also assumed there was different fates for Jackie but I was pissed as well when this was set in stone.
I feel the same… I made sure V drank a Jackie Wells before going to end credits! I also made sure V achieved the dream he shared with Jackie.(Legends of the Afterlife!)
My first playthrough was in honor of Jackie the whole run.
Edit: I admit when I got to his death scene that I had forgotten they spoiled his death with that trailer.. also just genuinely hoped there may be some order method to do events allowing him to live.
But I do understand Jackie's death being V's motivation going forward!
YES! It almost feels like this « hell of a lifetime » recap with Jackie was a placeholder for a whole chunk of the game that they couldn’t make in time. Not saying that’s what it is, but it felt this way, and it was clunky in the pacing of the story, it kinda confused me. Doesn’t make sense neither that they have shown all those images in the trailer videos as if they were parts of the game. But no, it was all just from that 1 minute series of flashback snippets. Don’t get me wrong, the game is great on many aspects, but also a deception on some pretty important aspects too.
My bet is… Brace yourself for the DLCs!!! There’s a ton of potential in the awesome Night City that they created, and lots of room to make it better.
When I saw the thumbnail. I immediately said:
Yep That's All of our problem.
My guess is that when they made that trailer in which jackie died, there was supposed to be an alternate ending to the situation but it got cut to make way for johnny.
I had no emotional engagement with Jackie Welles death. There wasn't enough missions to help create the bond.
Clearly they scrapped 2h of Jackie content for the sake of Keanu's lame character.

TeC ParadoX i take pics of cyberpunk 🙂
I couldn’t agree more. They created this great character and then they just flushed him. I would of liked to hangout with Jackie for the whole game. What a lost opportunity.
That's what I was thinking too. Huge spoiler in a beautiful CGI trailer. They shouldn't show Jackie's death if it was inevitable…
FFS CDPR have been Ransom hacked now.Real netrunners, change pawwords guys if u use CDPR services just in case
He was built up way too much, and with Viktor indicating that Saka picked up the body, there's no way they're done with him.
The very best thing I could really do with Jackie is share his cup of noodles. East Asian food is one of the greatest things to ever happen to Night City.
And also, he looks more Maori as he sounds Mexican, which is very cool.
Maybe there could be DLC in the form of a ‘What if?”, scenario were V died during the heist instead of Jackie and you play as Jackie himself!
There is a scene in isle of mist in Witcher 3 where Geralt finally found Ciri but she was unresponsive. That emotional reaction from Geralt was so real and heartbreaking, moments like that made Witcher 3 one of the best game ever made. But in CP 2077 when Jackie who was one of the best characters in the game died reaction from V was not that heartbreaking. It would have If CD Projekt Red showed more scenes with Jackie. It's a shame how They ruined character arcs and plots for this game.
The montage was massively jarring as you enter the cyberpunk world at the top of the game being noticed by Dexter. It would have been so much better if you had to earn some street cred to get noticed. You would feel more part of the world instead of the world just being a kind of background thing. But I understand why they did it, because they DIDN'T want the players to get too attached to a character they are going to kill. They do this in films all the time. If it's a holywood blockbuster to appeal to the masses they don't get the audience too attached to the characters that are going to be killed off. So many people want Jackie DLC they would be crazy not to make it
And I agree I was not sad at Jackie being killed, I was more angry at not being able to save him and it being spoilt by CDPR. Overall CDPR spoilt way too much. The spiderbot/flathead mission is the only mission with significant choices and it was totally spoilt. Famous characters being in the game like Rogue and Adam Smasher was spoilt. Going to the black wall is a one off event and was spoilt. Getting to do a braindance investigation was spoilt. The voodoo boys double crossing you was spoilt. Playing as Johnny Silverhand himself was spoilt. Personally I thought the marketing was a teaser of what amazing things to expect. But NO, the marketing just spoilt a big proportion of the big reveals in the game. It is like seeing a movie and then realizing the trailer WAS the whole movie.
The biggest problem I have in the game is that I cannot roleplay in this game. The story is very linear and you just select the ending you want. You need help and as a Street Kid/Corpo/Nomad who you go to for help would be different. The fact the game forces you to work with everyone means that it does not feel "in keeping" with any of the backgrounds or with the world lore. Having to work with everyone in the same way regardless of your character makes the game linear and kills replayability. I am playing Witcher 2 at the moment and Cyberpunk is just a massive step backwards in terms to roleplaying ability, choice and consequence. To be honest it's hard to believe the game is from the same developer. They abandoned the thing that made their games so special
It's not a mistake…they know exactly what they're doing..that's DLC content. They're not fools. They'll add more character customization and missions with Jackie. So they can advertise it as creating a whole new character to replay act 1 and play out the missions with Jackie…and it'll be a whole DLC. 'The rise of jackie and V"…car customization and all that. .am I the only one that saw that? I knew right away what they were doing. Not right away, but after jackie died and I thought about it.. CDPR aren't stupid.
