Valheim – How to Build a Viking Longhouse (starter base tutorial)

This is my First Valheim How to Build Tutorial for a Viking longhouse.
This is a new Survival game on steam in early access.

One of the most interesting parts of this game is the physics.
Everything has mass and reacts to the world around it, and this carries over right into the building you actually have to support your structures.

Pillars need bracing, upper floors and roofs need beams and pillars to support them, if you overload a structure it will just collapse.

So you have to build like a real Viking, making the skeleton of a base with beams and pillars and then the outer skin walls and roofs reinforcing the structure as you go.

I give my own Valheim game review at the start of the video and then it is a full How to Build Tutorial for the Viking Longhouse.
I have added some tips for the game throughout and explained the whole build in detail.

  1. Add some texture to the walls with 2m planks placed at right angles to the walls at the intersections. Fitting ladders under the thatch really takes the flatness away from the underlying texture.

  2. Awesome construction and I tried it. Very happy with the result! Thanks for posting it, much appreciated. Sometimes it was a bit difficult to follow when you started to build things and break things down, especially during the second half of the video. Been rewinding it countless of times haha. But in the end it all paid off. Thanks again!

  3. Okay. I have a HUGE problem with this video… After watching the others first, it appears I have run out of your awesome Valheim build videos to watch and I have nothing to do but sit here and be sad. Of course, I should be working. But I need more of these videos!!

Pero vos sos un pelotudo, gastamos el triple de recursos y de tiempo viendo como armabas y desarmas las estructuras.
Para la proxima, armate un plan mejor.

  5. Credits for this Long House, also for this video. I like to give you a suggestion for house building: Use the 1/2 wooden walls as a foundation-"frame" (imagine it like an actuak frame that you place on the ground) fill that "frame" with the wooden floors, it will stay stable and you don't have to worry to use pillars beneath the floor to make a solit and stable cunstruction.
I also managed to build a similar long house with less effort, also with a similar chimney and the roof didn't colapse. My chimney is just 2 pieces long and my fire place inside is 2×4. Smoke still isn't an issue even if it's ab it smokey arround the fire place.

  6. I'm not sure why but I'm absolutely stuck on building this – trying to put the roof crosses on above the top floor and every time they collapse. The thatching falls down as well.
I've triple checked everything is identical… I'm really confused
