Agreed on the workbenches, we should be able to build basic shelters without them.
Tbh I’d probably quit the game without portals.
We dont want immersion mack, we want instant respawns, x-ray vision and pew-pew-pew !!!!!
hey I'm getting ready to buy three keys so I can give this a spin with my kids. 60$ for three keys is a bit steep. any luck out there?
Just because there are portals in the game doesn't mean you have to use them. So why bitch about them? Does it make you angry that other people use them? I don't get the logic.
Man this guy is really gonna die on his "no portals" hill isnt he? Why is he trying to gatekeep so hard on this? He's doing it the right way, if he doesnt want to use them, then dont use them. Some of us are playing single player only tho & simply dont have the time to sail around for hours & hours every time we play.
I understand not wanting to use portals in multiplayer, but they should definitely be left in the game for us single player plebs.
The only reason I have portals is for if we wipe in a biome and need to get back because the ship is there
War on the Sea Review, please!!!!!!
Your bed is a portal. Should you restart a brand new game if you die? not hardcore enough!
Excuse me, not everybody in this world is fortunate enough to be able to spend there whole day playing games and getting payed for it. This game is really time consuming as is and just to be able to cut down a fraction of that time by using a portal is a time saver which helps out allot for…you know…the labor working man which just wants to sink into a game to become oblivious to his shitty job. To do so………..having a portal to cut down traveling times is highly valued to most grown up gamers. I have in total 39 hours in this game. Some of those hours are afk. You simply can not complain about this "feature" outside of opinion based and make it sound like fact just because it annoys you because you have all the free time in the world to fully emerge you're self into a game.
I feel portals are in the game as a consideration towards modern capitalistic modern society and the generation that is the target audience for this game. If you don't believe us…….get a full labor job on payroll and play this game, I'm sure you'll see why were defending this…..option.
Request review of The Shore if ur not already planning it. Excited but hesitant to buy. Thanks dude ur the shit.
I run my own server and it's been great, is it based of their CPU? I have a 5950x, maybe that helps?
if portals become needed it wont be fun, as the add content they might balance it around instant travel
Lay off the damn portals, some like them. It's ok everything isn't for you brother
Lol we play it with 10 men no problem we build a huge stonen keep to!! 😀 friend of mine made a dedicated server and he rents them out as well, it's his company, he his really tech savvy, he patched something and now the upload server speed is 4 times as fast as normal. Lucky me for having NERD friends 😀 ooh and btw you cant take any ore ( copper, bronze, iron etc ) in to the portals so you still need to travel a lot FYI 😀 LOVE YOU MACK!!! <3 DIIIINNNGGGGGGG!!! :p
I've never seen a game try to splice dedicated+p4p together… guess now we know why.
Why is the graphics and textures so pixelated? Will it probably improve when it leaves Early Acces?
It's like a new trend (well not exactly new) But these retarded "gamers" basically PAY for the PC/console, then pay for the game, then maybe a server or PSN/GOLD. Then pay for in game bullshite like gun camo or loot boxes etc with REAL money. And then after all that, they would pay to have the game finished before it has even started just because they can't be fucked to actually play it the way it was meant to be played. Sad really, as Mac said, the immersion of actually beating them enemies after dying repeatedly is beyond satisfying!
OMFG mac i was just watching your blizzcon video and an hour into it, the video got taken down……… FUCK YOUTUBE!
“It is however pretty sensitive to one player having a bad connection..”
So, don’t try and play it in Australian in other words
Nice chill game let's hope investors don't fuck this one
I have a dumpster server I throw my rubbish into, log out open another world and it only takes a moment.
There’s two types of people- ones that dont mind portals and find them useful. And ones that hate them
Mack, I am feeling exactly what you are feeling… you want to defend this gem because you are hungry… Finally a good, immersive game, and you want to protect it so that it doesn't follow the fate of the others that you have experienced. It's like we finally get one good game for a big hunger that was acquired throughout time, and like a hungry animal we feel like defending it from what we perceive as an inevitable doom. I don't want this game to become sucky. Once I heard your review I instantly bought it, and I truly hope it won't be ruined… I'm having so much fun… please God, at least keep this one game good.
Portals, like Fast Travel in FO4, etc. Never use it for the reasons you gave. Liked.
Well review dyson sphere program, it's well worth reviewing.
"This game is about Vikings, they didn't teleport about when they attacked my country."
To be fair, this game is about dead vikings, and they didn't kill giant stags or skeletons when they attacked our country, either. I love the immersion, but I also accept that sometimes I want to get back to base quickly, and that this game ISN'T about "just" vikings. Saying all that, you're right that you don't need portals. However, as someone who really loves everything about the games, I don't think that portals are a bad thing.
As a friendless outcast, I'd really like to see a pet system or something. It's so lonely. I just want a pet wolf.
Without a revision to the inventory system I think the portals make sense, all they're doing is cutting time. It's not inherently difficult to traverse a long distance with a boat, especially if it's a trip if you've done before, it's just time consuming. So to me portals are just a way of cutting unnecessary time waste. I do think they should be a bit harder to make, given the utility they provide but overall I think they aren't removing much from the experience.
I usually agree with you but I wish you would stop complaining about things like fast travel. You don’t use it that’s fine but don’t call for it to be taken out the game. They aren’t making “Mack’s ideal game” they are making a game for everyone. Most people aren’t going to enjoy going over the same areas time and times again. You aren’t forced to use the portals so what’s the issue?
Mack, you've got to do retro WAB on Bioshock I and II. Great game you missed big time.
Portals are a great addition. Feels rewarding to me to finally have a portal placed in a new biom I have discovered
Watched your Worth a Buy? video on this, played 130 hours in 1 week. SHIIIIEEET, this game is the best I've played in years
I tried using portals now I have ED. Don't be like me.
I rent a dedicated server for 4 players (two couples), and we also made a "No Portals" agreement, based on your first video (and my decade of playing Skyrim without ever using fast travel)… At this point we have a world with a network of roads to facilitate cart travel between villages and resources, we have trestle bridges over canyons, hardened outposts, harbors, etc. Getting iron home means carting it out of the swamp to a hardened outpost located on a river, right where the water stays placid; it's loaded onto our only longship (currently) and when that's full we sail it to the harbor on our home island, transfer it into carts, and haul it to the homestead, which is currently being expanded with a glorious castle keep… It's an adventure every time.
Now I haven't personally played on other servers, but my brother and his wife have, and the experience they described in a portal-reliant world didn't sound like my kind of game **at all**. So I'm extremely thankful to you for continuing to make the case against them.
(And while I'm here, can I spruik for my own pet peeve? We need some way to share map data between players. Specifically I want to sit down around a campfire with my group and combine our map data and markers… Maybe grey-out the markers from other players, or create a little deadzone where nearby markers are assumed to be the same. But splitting our parties to explore new lands would be incentivised by this, adding another layer of risk/reward.)
7:15 wooooord
dude talks about vikings not teleporting… they also didnt fight fuckin trolls and dragons lmao
totally disagree with the portals comment. Earlier today i had to sail a 10 minute voyage to get to my other base in the swamp and i finally unlocked portals. It made it so much easier to go back and forth especially when i needed to get materials, doing a 10 min voyage each time to get materials is stupid. Im still immersed as well, this game isnt all about viking life, theres trolls and dragons in it, its a fantasy game with fantasy aspects and portals are one of those aspects. Its gonna be even better once i explore the top half of the map and need a quick way down to the middle where my base is because I as sure hell am not gonna sail each time i need to get somewhere especially that large of a distance. I still use my boat though, exploring the map, and sailing to islands that are close because its just not worth to have a portal going to somewhere that takes like 3 mins tops to get to. Nothing needs to change with portals and theyre staying, just dont use them. If you want to sail for 20 mins somewhere and back then have fun but thats not for me.
