With the recent news that the PlayStation 5 has become the fastest-selling video game console in history, it got me wondering if the console will truly do better in the long run than the Xbox Series X|S. PS5 vs Xbox Series X strategies seem to be widely differing where the PS5 is focused on console sales, Xbox doesn’t even release those numbers making it difficult to compare. That’s likely by design as Phil Spencer doesn’t release those numbers and instead focuses on players. I dive into what those PS5 sales record numbers really mean when up against the Xbox strategy and I have to wonder if Sony will win the old game (console sales) but Xbox is thinking much bigger picture as we move into a more digital heavy market.

Yeah sorry Phil Spencer but us Sony gamers didn't lose contacts on console sales. You used to do console sale numbers. The only reason you stopped is because you were losing the race. all you did was change the narrative to make it sound good for Xbox.
Hey Dustin good video man. I'm a Sony gamer and I don't care that the older games are going to PC. It's only going to open their eyes to the great games on Sony's console and make them want to get a PS5 to be a part of those exclusives.
Seeing sony sold there I think it's like 5 million ps5s and xbox had there stock of I think 3 million. Both r sold out makes sense atm Seeing sony currently has made more stock. Be interesting Seeing the numbers a year from now. But also Microsoft focus is gamepass and that is selling like hot cakes Seeing its pretty much on all devices besides ps and Nintendo. Seeing there good relationships with Nintendo wouldn't be surprised sometime in future it going on there as well
Lol, I get ranty when I'm trying to make a simple point sometimes. Especially when for some reason it seems complicated to people.
If it wasn't for Microsoft coming out with the price of the Xbox first, the ps would probably be $600 or $700.
I don't see the Switch as a console. It's a glorified handheld.
Given that part of the market is hording the hardware (thieves and scalpers), things won't grow as much.

You are spot on. Hardcore gamers live in a bubble. Console and PC gamers have the mind set of the traditional model—buy hardware (plastic) that allows you to play locked software within that hardware. MS is disrupting the gaming market. The media like IGN, Polygon, Gamespot were all so stuck on the traditional model that for about 6 years they were mostly bashing Xbox…. MS has a big advantage here and Sony really dropped the ball; Sony stopped innovating and continued selling more plastic (PSVR) and then abandoned them. They never invested full on with cloud data centers, GamePass, services, software features like auto-HD, backward Compatibility, etc.. They just double downed on selling you more exclusives. Sony listened to the gamers—exclusives—and it ended up hurting them in the long run. Sony has a long way to catch up to MS’s software and services, we are talking years.

I think Xbox's strategy is brilliant but to say consoles are just peices of platic is disrespectful to the hardware team. Also Sony sells the PS5 at a loss so scalpers and resellers buying up all of the consoles isn't good for them they need people buying games to make up for that loss.
Sony put more consoles in America than they did in Europe the UK and Japan…
That's why Xbox outsold in the UK…
And why PlayStation is currently outselling in America…
But you can play Xbox games on your phone/ your tablets /your PC/ your console and soon your TV

Xbox's future strategy makes perfect sense. As consumers, we've moved away from the mentality of having to own all media we consume. After many years of purchasing discs and cartridges I've realized how convenient purchasing digital games truly is. Also, having a subscription service saves me money in the long run because I can just play the games that come to the service. As someone who has a wife and kids the variety of games the game pass service offers us simply amazing!
