is the minion in the back okay
Sending this to every guy who keeps trying to gatekeep me out of the gaming community, claiming that "im just a girl, i dont really /understand/ games like men do"
the gaming scene as a whole needs more people like you 🙂 great video, ty for making it
I saw your video on twitter that got retweeted! I loved your video 🙂
Really well written video essay, great stuff
epic video
Overwatch was my first PC FPS game since back in the day when I played Halo 2/3 for a couple of years, my aim was horrendous, it still is. Like you said, it's just a result of me not having as much FPS game experience. The difference is that if I get flamed in game, it's not because "I'm a grill", and I'm pretty much always given the benefit of the doubt because I'm a guy.
Heck I even got my wife to play OW with me for a bit, but competitive, and having to talk to morons, killed it for her. she dropped it not too long after, and I dropped it a year or so ago since playing w/o her isn't as fun.
WAKE UP BABE NEW BONNIE VIDEO

Loving the video and the slick editing too!
This is something that isn't brought up enough and there's an unhealthy amount of guys who willingly stay oblivious to issues that women face within gaming communities.

10/10 content thank you for saying this in such a clear and 'smart' way I am saving this for some of my friend who need to hear it.. thank you for sharing 🙂
Splatoon is third person, not FPS, but it was my first shooter anything game. Not only were the bright colors, whimsy, and non-gendered appeal of it attractive to me, but also there is no voice chat in Splatoon, like with other Nintendo games with online functionality. I picked it up because I felt safe enough to. Safety features Nintendo bakes in to its games for kids has the affect of making it a bit safer for grown women too.
I played Overwatch for a bit after getting into Splatoon but dropped it fast after receiving harassment. I expected it to happen but it was still too much. I didn’t even use voice chat, I just had a girly username and was too stubborn to change it to feel safe to participate.
Thank you so much for this video, it really resonated with me and my experiences, and you explained everything in a way I wouldn’t have been able to. This really is a touchy subject for me and I just get sputtering mad about it, haha.
I felt this video so hard. I've been playing video games my whole life, just not the rugged shooters like Halo and COD like you spoke of. I started playing Overwatch in 2017 and it was my first FPS game. Zenyatta was actually the first character I started playing as opposed to Mercy and I downright sucked. Meanwhile, all the guys my age had started playing shooters on their Xbox 360's when they were in middle school, and all I had was a Wii and a shitty Dell PC. OW and Apex are my favorite games as well, so this whole video was so relatable. I hope that this video was informative to other people who didn't grow up this way (not playing *real video games*)
I may not with agree with some things but anybody can become talented in anything if you have a passion for it.
weoweoweo i would like to buy a tshirt with this algorithm boost
Personally I think the statement of "boys like csgo and call of duty because its manly, bland colors, and shooting" is a bad take. Maybe I'm the minority? but I really only play Rainbow six siege, and Super smash brothers. Melee, and to me these games are fun not because its a shooter, or because its people fighting, its the strategy and complex thinking that goes into a lot of the situations that occur very frequently. The shooting and fighting is merely a median for this, similar to how people enjoy chess and even young children playing Rock Paper Scissors, its not BECAUSE of the physical pieces or the thoughts of rocks, its the challenge of fighting someone else-an actual person who can think for them selves, and someone who is actively trying to take me down while I'm doing my best to do the same to them. That's what draws me to competitive games as a male.
As for inclusivity, honestly I don't care in the slightest bit at ALL what gender my team is or the other person sitting next to me in a Smash Melee tournament set, as long as they are not being annoying(mic spamming or screaming/complaining/throwing controller next to me). Because the reason I'm there is to play a vidyuh game, try and win, but also to enjoy the experience and I don't see how having someone being a female effects that (again idc as long as they're not annoying and that goes for males too).
My last thing is that perhaps people would give more credit to female gamers in a competitive scene if they actually know its a female doing well. Personally I know very little gamer females in real life so my perception is that its on the upper end of mostly males-thats just what ive experienced. But when people are doing well and theyre a female, but their name is "something gender neutral" like "Milk-Tea", it becomes harder to recognize the scene. P.S. Milk Tea is a female smash melee player that actually co-created the "Smash Sisters" brand where it planned to create a more welcoming community for females to enter the scene thats still active at tournaments (when irl tournaments come back after covid)
