Why Are Video Games So Tedious Nowadays?

Why Are Video Games So Tedious Nowadays?

Modern day video games can be so boring and repetitive at times, but why is that? What makes a game fun and what makes a game a waste of your time? In this video I discuss and rant about video games and the industry and why only some studios seem to be focused on good game design and quality, while others put random and useless mechanics in their games just to pad the length.

  1. I look at a game and think, how long can this keep me entertained. I usually calculate it 1hr/$Spent if it's worth it to me. If you want to just rush the story you can just do that, like with Assassins Creed, but with a lot of people, they love the grind. That's the majority of games are nowadays, a grind. Sure I love a good story, but if I spend $60 on a game I want it to actually be worth my time.

  2. I partially agree, some games aren't very entertaining because they are repeatable or have complicated inventory/crafting mechanism, that's true.
But I would never want a good game to be shorter and more intense – because if i beat a great game in less that 25 h, I just want more. I LOVE FAT (but a good fat). I would pay more to play longer, because I enjoy the game (like Skyrim, Fallout, Minecraft, the grind and the chill)). I play in my free time, to relax and chill. Not to rush it. I guess it depends on what kind of person you are. If you wanna rush and adrenaline, play multiplayer shooters. If you want a long game with good story, play games based on stories, with exploring. I am completely fine with a few of boring quests – I just watch nice views and enjoy the music. Some people really enjoy it. It's not a waste of time.
I think we need both types of games – some for hardcore gamers and some for chilling players.
Every game should be properly designed tho, have good mechanics, good music, good story, no bugs, etc.
