Apex Legends Matchmaking Changes/Fixes Are Coming

In today’s video I go over how some matchmaking changes will be coming to the game at some point and also give my take on SBMM and matchmaking in general as well as some ideas on how to improve it. Hopefully respawn follows through and makes some improvements but we will have to see. Hope you enjoy 🙂

  1. When i used to play COD they had "mercenary" for a few modes which only allowed ppl to queue solo, when they added crossplay they should have added "mercenary". TBH id rather be able to pick the map, hate logging in to see storm point or olympus for pubs, just wanna play KC or WE for pubs

  2. hmm i dont think every 3 stack is a problem. most will just ape and die like a squad of solos would while some other 3stacks will try to play liek they have to pubstomp for a living (am in both) and then there are solo 200k kill people who will just destroy the lobby on their own. and then we are back at the not so skill based part of their sbmm and nothing really changed

  3. My first match is always hard. I stay in lobbies with 1000+ kills. I just give up after 2 hours and I might get a win. A lot of cursing at Apex happens. Wash, rinse, repeat.

  4. Nahhh thats not the fucking issue the issue is when soloing your getting players that literally just picked up the controller there is no logical way bronze player should be quing up with a diamond players especially in rank

  5. If i queue for pub arenas solo i still vs 3 stack preds and wait upto 10 mins just for a pub game, so if they were to split the community so solos v solos it would prob end up with 20min queues id much rather just solo vs 3 stack preds tbh ita good practise just not enjoyable

  6. I’d think a solo que lobby would be a good idea, but I’m not for it because that would lead to even more three stack masters players when I get a couple of my level 50 friends to play with me. Solution is to make a 2 tier system for beginner players to have a lobby they remain in until they begin to perform at a level respawn can consider to move them, and a lobby that everybody else plays in called the normal pub lobby.

  7. “If players win too much they will be bored and stop playing.”

I remember when the devs said this and I find it so disingenuous. Ranked is where players go when they want a real challenge. SBMM is really just about trying to maximize the likelihood that casual players win so they can spend money.

The biggest threat to maximizing profits is having skilled players win more than weaker players.

Pubs should probably just be random. All of this SBMM and EOMM is just manipulative. Anyone who wants to always play the most challenging version of a game should exclusively play its ranked mode.

  8. The matchmaking system is pretty awful. I play no more than a few hours a week, but the game assume I'm a pro as it places me with high rank players (WTF?). I think I wouldn't surprise any of you if I say that I die within 5 mins in mostly 85-90% of all my games (and I rarely have more than 2-4 kills).

  9. Rocket League had your suggestion as an option up until Epic bought the game company and went free to play. Then they removed it for some reason… I enjoyed it because everyone was at the same skill level, but there must have been a reason?

  10. Your idea would definitely be good for balance, but there would be a significant increase in queue times, since you could be in a queue where the game tries to match you up with players of your skill level AND that are in a pre-made squad.

  11. My first game is always my hardest, I'm only level 115 but get qued up with level 500's almost 100% of the time, games dont ever seem to get easier, i only average 3-4/00 damage per game and 1 kill every 10 matches. I feel theres an issue somewhere and after just a match or two, I get just disinterested and saddened at my outcomes. Just recently I got a win out of maybe 75 games I played. But thats only cause my teamates are good ones in the lobby and I'm just there to grab there banners and run.

  12. I've had this idea too, but at this point even picking one of 3 playstyles and trying to team up with such players would be nice. Or a new algorithm in addition to the current one which just tracks how long you survive as jump-master and low time players are considered together and players that live longer also are teamed together. Tired of randoms dropping hot and not being able to survive a second.
