One issue I’ve noticed with a lot of “Friend” covers is that they sort of just keep bf at normal pitch. Or they pitch the actual notes all the way down to make it only say “oh.” This is… alright. But I feel like distortion on bf, mixed with voice formant down would’ve made it better.

I think this song perfectly captures the essence of most mods. Most of the time it is the BF who initiates and provokes events. Especially when the characters don't even start the conflict themselves. Like Whitty, who said straight out that he's not in the mood, but BF was like a stubborn sheep, and Whitty snapped. And there are plenty of examples like that.
