Here's what I don't undestand. Sylvanas Did have a choice. She was holding back Arthas with a small band of defenders. She was literally trying to do the same thing Arthas tried to do before picking up Frostmourne. She wanted to save EVERYONE, and she refused to fall back to Silvermoon when her messages didn't get through. She could have brought the forces under her command back to Silvermoon and reinforced the defense of the city there. Instead she chose to be obstinant and she made a selfish last stand before Arthas, the undead monstrosity, and – no surprises here – was denied a clean death. I'm not even talking about having a choice to flee. That's not really a choice considering how devastating that would be to her honor, self esteem and future prospects, as she was a high ranking protector of her people. So what choice was she denied?
I think the only thing that is unfair with her life is that when she tried to commit suicide, she saw that she was going to the maw. I think ever since that time she was desperate to find a way out. That the cosmic forces have mortal souls in a trap, siphoning anima from them is just something she has discovered later.

The Crystal like the same Crystal the players get, the same one we use to rescue souls from the maw, meaning if this crystal is forged into a weapon then maybe that’ll consume souls like frostmourne? That’s my speculation tho

They are infusing the Crystal into "Shalamayne", and if you notice Sylvanas is holding "Shalamayne" with those "blue" runes similar to "Frostmourne" and the core has turn into that "blue/necrotic" light
