A review of a much troubled spec from BFA. great fun to play but covered in deeper issues that prevent it from being very popular as well as very competitive (and often these two go hand in hand).
Let’s look at what changes in Shadowlands and if anything, if at all, looks better:

  1. Sloot had some veteran WW players on his channel a few months ago.
One of them said everything about WW in one phrase: "The spec lures you in because it´s so fun to play but that´s a trap"! xD
Which sums it up pretty well.

  2. WW is seriously my disappointing child; gameplay has never been the same since they changed it in Legion. You used to manage 3 resources (RIP Tigereye Brew), while now Storm Earth & Fire feels very bad to press – Wish Blizz would bring Chi Explosion back, let Chi Torpedo heal again or something, cause (while awesome) bringing Xuen & Touch of Death back to it's previous state is just not enough to choose this as a spec.

  3. Gladiator 4K+ io WW main of 7+ years, wow veteran for way more. Not even gonna watch the video just here to say it’s a real shame that windwalker is rotationally the most fun spec in the game but lacks more than 5 minutes of dev time and is ruined by so many bugs and complete lack of synergy between the kit and secondary stats. I’ve put up with it for very long and tried my hardest at what I believe is the most mechanically interesting damage rotation but it’s just so tiring to play perfect and do as well as half of the classes do when they face roll. I’ve finally decided to turn my favorite class/spec into an alt as I move into shadowlands. It honestly just breaks my heart. Go look at the bug lists on beta feedback forums. Go look at the blatantly unfulfilled promises of the blue posts, or the literal hours and hours of passionate feedback just ignored. Game breaking bugs unaddressed for years. It’s a joke honestly for a company of this scale to allow such negligence. Either way RIP to all my fellow ww monks sticking it out in pve. I’ll be on my mop CM set affliction lock topping every chart for half the effort :/

  4. Wtf. Being encouraged to not spam an ability multiple times in a row is awesome and super unique. WW never gets boring.

Yes there are those moments where it’s frustrating because you have nothing to press that “FeELss GoOD” but 90% of you’re playing correctly that won’t happen that often.

Tip: Gotta learn to look for those opportunities to dump your Chi in an effective way and get back to a clean 0 Chi to help keep up your master easier.

I get some people don’t like it but I don’t think there’s a more engaging melee spec in the game. I think that’s worth the occasional “feels bad man” moment. 90% awesome and 10% frustrating is way better imo than 90% meh and 10% awesome like most specs.

  5. WW issues are scaling and ST performance. They struggle to fix the latter because WW already has very scary burst in PvP and could easily become OP. The solution is to add scaling and raw damage to their abilities which are not part of their burst window. For example: Tiger Palm crits cause your next blackout kick to be free and cause 50% more damage.

  6. And now they gave us a 5% aura buff – Meanwhile your clones haven't been casting Tiger Palm for months now which often results in them doing less damage than intended because they break their own mastery. They should fix the fucking bugs and not give us a passive damage increase, haha.

  7. Thanks as always for your video. I recently converted my Brewmaster to a Windwalker, so this was a useful bit of perspective. Luckily, I'm not trying to push particularly difficult content with him. I look forward to the next one!

  8. Sad…but still I really love the spec. Its fun, its hard, its fast, got amazing utility, you can do amazing things with ring of peace, maybe the best dueling class, the best movility in the whole game, fast and goods cds, good visuals, good sounds
…and you got brewmaster and mistweaver.

But not sure still if I gonna main this or my good old feral. Hope both get tweaks.

Buffing WW spells by 5% when we are the lowest. Okay nice.

Others get higher % buffs. What are they smoking.

I really wonder what numbers and data they look at. WW needed at least 40% to even be avarage (:

  10. I dont get why WW has such bad scaling. Xuen scales off mastery, so a flat out %damage is a good legendary. I guess I dont understand why %damage increase isnt good. As you gear, it would just seem to get better since it scales off all your gear.

  11. They need to take ascension out of the talent trees and make it baseline. The spec plays so much better with Ascension. Thats how it should always feel because without it, it feels bad and clunky and screws up the flow and subsequently, your mastery

  12. One thing – Expel Harm is actually worth using in main rotation, it has an excellent Energy/Chi ratio and Tiger Palm doesnt do that much damage to begin with.

Overall many seem to ignore EH but it's more than niche. Counts towards Mastery, best Chi generator, can be used during movement and mechanics, prevents Chi decay.

Also, while I'd love an extra spender like SotWL back, the periods when maij abilities are down and you want to dump Chi isn't unsatisfying, at least for me. I find planning ahead what will I slot in between BoKs fairly engaging and probably the only moment when Mastery really matters.
