🔶 Star Wars released a new blog post. Revealing that all their Star Wars games now fall under the “Lucasfilm Games” branch. A re-branding of the Star Wars gaming franchise. But what does this mean for EA?

So what do you guys think of this news? Do you think this will affect the relationship between Lucasfilm Games & EA? Or is this just a simple sub-branding & nothing more? Let us know in the comments down below guys! Love reading them! 😊
Also, here's the video I mentioned at the end of this video! => https://youtu.be/qJyFi1LlHJ0
I just built my pc in november, Battlefront 2, Squadrons and Fallen Order have taken over my life. I am OK with EA. I just hope this name change does not bring a flood of mediocre games.
dont get your hopes up i highly doubt any orginaly trigilogy stuff will b made now that the high republic has begun
I just think it’s a rebranding and nothing else
I feel like they're just going to re-sign with EA, but thats really only because I've become a rather pessimistic person over the past year. I could totally see them giving more developers a chance though, I mean EA is still screwing up in Madden and their fanbase is only getting more and more angry by the year with the crap NFL game they shit out every year. I mostly hate playing EA games because their online servers are so bad. Sometimes you just cant even connect to them for no reason. They're such a rotten company, I just want them to put out 1 or 2 quality Star Wars games a year, thats all I need.
I don't think EA really was trying not to be greedy, but they rather had a "Please don't kill us" mentality lol. They either had to do something good or end up being so hated that no one buys their games anymore
I hope the exclusivity contract isn't renewed but I also hope EA continues to make Star Wars games as one of many developers. I see so many possible concepts for fun STar Wars games and some of them I think EA could make well but others I suspect other developers would handle better.
ea sucks forever, thats all u need to know
Best Star Wars games:
Kotor (pre EA Bioware)
X-Wing series (Totally Games)
Empire at War (Petroglyph Studios)
Rogue Squadron series (Factor 5)
jedi Knight series (Lucasarts in house and Raven Studios)
Force Unleashed (Lucasarts/Aspyr)
Star Wars battlefront II (Pandemic)
Star Wars Jedi Fallen order (EA)
Star Wars squadrons (EA)
Worst Star Wars games by same Studios
Kotor II (unfinished) Bioware
Force unleashed 2: (Aspyr)
X-Wing vs Tie Fighter (Totally games)
Star Wars battlefront (EA)
Star Wars battlefront II (EA – it took them 3 years to fix)
So…while we do have many examples of EA generally buying up our favorite game Studios and having them make so so games , in this case we can see that there is a pattern that generally speaking MANY Studios making as many good games as bad for Star Wars. I guess at this point has EA learned their lessons or not when it comes to Star Wars games?
If they did start producing their own games under LucasFilm Games would the do a Willow themed game
Don't remember seeing any EA logo hidden away in the rebrand. So I think you are right. EA won't renew after these 10years come to an end. So this rebrand is preparing for the future.
First thing Is I'd do is kick EA to the curb and get started on a KOTOR 1&2 remaster or remake, with added cut content of course. But hey, probably not. Good things never happen in gaming
I’m glad Ea don’t have a hold on Star Wars, it means we have chance of getting more rts/strategy type game in the franchise.
Empire at war 2, jedi knight 4: jedi master, bounty hunter just to name a few games that would be awesome
LOL, I like how you completely skipped the actual AAA Avengers game developed by SquareEnix that tanked last year when listing Marvel games. Not suprised though, it doesn't really have much of a mind-share among gamers.
That time when Minecraft and fortnite get in game mandalorian content but no star wars game with mando except galaxy "of a waste of money due to money grabbing bastards" of heroes. People got that and not a new star wars game? What type of bollocks is this? I'm waiting for an open world star wars game that low key everyone wants….well not everyone. Cough cough EA.
While EA wont have exclusive rights, i do expect them to still be making star wars games.
This model allows disney to make big AAA games with companies like EA and also make more niche games with smaller companies like….idk….Empire at War 2 or something 🤓
To be honest… all we need is a George Lucas game
Lucasfilm: "This BF2 debacle is making Star Wars look bad. If you want us to renew the license, then you will not put lootboxes in Star Wars games again."
EA: hasn't released a star wars game with lootboxes since.
That's my take, at any rate…
and EA really hasn't been taking good care of the IP anyway… They seem incapable of giving the players what they want. or seem to think that there's not enough money in it. [shrugs]
Honestly, it'll be a good thing all around if EA loses exclusivity. The more people who get to make Star Wars games, the better. Hell, while I still can't morally justify buying anything Star Wars, I'm interested to see what Corey Barlog and his Santa Monica team would do with the IP, since he expressed great interest and passion regarding making a Mandalorian game. (personally I feel like a game that's SIMILAR to The Mandalorian would be a smarter move, but you do you Corey)
Though ideally, if there was any justice in the world, EA would be outright barred from working with Star Wars, as karmic payback for the travesty that was their Battlefront reboots and Galaxy of Heroes.
I'm inclined to think they're restarting LucasArts from the ground up, so it's invariably the opposite – perhaps they'll develop a couple games with EA publishing and see where they go from there, that would allow for short contracts…which I think EA would be willing to pay a premium for as the hype is hot right now. What do you think?
Hopefully EA loses exclusive right. They have made mediocre games. Don't understand all praise given to JFO that game is a buggy mess, story was okay gameplay could be better aswell.
I thought the reason is obvious: They’re diversifying. Disney has upcoming projects involving Indiana Jones and ‘Willow’. Those are Lucas-related. That allows them to create IJ and ‘Willow’-based games.
I liked epic mickey
My question if ea contract is over will squadron be over as well. If so? Not good at all. I'm a fan of squadron and I don't want it to disconnected over the right issues. This would be very disappointing 😞
i believe that EA will still be allowed to make star wars games but no longer have exculsivity.
Hmm
I'd like to see a Baldurs Gate style Star Wars game. All types of worlds to go to, a party to control and seemingly endless quests
Vode An intensifies
Just reinstate LucasArts, because it was the most popular brand associated with really good games and not just Star Wars.
There is a Indiana Jones game being published by bethfestda and made by one of the studos
We need a new empire at war game. Imagine the possibility with 2021 graphics 🔥
Watching this a day later after watching the trailer for a new Indiana Jones gaming from Machine Games..
EA doesn't deserve an extension. They've had the license for almost 10 years and released only a handful of games. I think they've cancelled more games than they've released. It's not the behavior of a company that wants the license.
My head though says that they will get the renewal because Disney is a major company and EA is a major company, thus cronyism.
How’s Pablo taste?
If KK has nothing to do with Lucas games, it should be fine.
EA was the worst choice possible.
Who else hates how every EA game feels slow and clunky. That odd feeling you dont get from any other company but EA
EA sucks and shouldn't be able to renew their contract.
I think they won't get the license renewal, or at least they won't have exclusivity. Look at the timing, if you think pre-production can take from one to two years… they could be doing this now to line up future games to launch in 2023/24. Exclusivity is always a bad idea, just look at the multitude of incredible Star Wars games in the early 2000's. KOTOR 1/2, Battlefront 1/2, the later Rogue Leader Gamecube titles, Republic Commando etc. Sure you had the odd flop, but it gave us a massively more diverse bredth of gaming experiences instead of those from EA which only actually became playable after they shot themselves in the foot with BF2.
Not being locked into one company can get the best developers for each genre and hopefully a lot more games.
You know what I really want to see now that other companies can make Star Wars games now, Lucasfilm Games partnering with wargaming or some other company like that to make a capital ship focused Star Wars game (something like world of warships)
Lego Star Wars and the new Bethesda Indiana Jones games are both "Lucasfilm Games" that aren't EA and yet have nothing to do with the current contract – so you may be looking too much into this. Isn't there a new Sam and Max game coming out for VR too? That might also fall under the umbrella if Lucasfilm owns the rights.
So yea, maybe it means EA will loose exclusivity – but I don't think I've seen anything conclusive yet.
So they brought back LucasArts Games and rebranded as LucasFilm Games, I guess hearing about Ubisoft and Bethesda working with them to make Star Wars games means that they are going back to allowing multiple companies the opportunity to make Star Wars games just like back in the day. I hope they approach Square Enix at some point.
