  1. I played it when it first came out, and I think I had played some of Gothic 2 before hand. I remember really loving G3, it just ran on my specs at the time and I remember enjoying the exploration etc (havent played it since like 2006 but from memory there was a desert area with ninja like people? That was my favourite). I've always hated the main characters haircut haha.

It was closer to the mark I was looking for than other games, Morrowind being the grandmaster. I don't think even witcher got close in the end, whicher items didn't matter. I wanted a game you could go out into the world and hunt/harvest/craft/sell loot etc… this from memory was pretty decent on that.

  2. That was truly a great video and I liked the concept! The passion for the game was present all the way through. Now, DA: Origins retrospective would be really nice. 😇

  3. Nameless hero: "Look, i brought back all the fire chalices. The were scattered all over the lands. Took me a while to get them, had to fight countless beasts, you know?"
Milten:"Cool story bro." lights up some swampweed

  4. I really tried to like G3, I really, really tried… but I've given up after I tried to liberate some city of orcs, forgot which one, but I do remember there where rebel groups parked outside in plain view near the city, and there where more hidden in some cave, but not the cave near the starting point of the game, actually this city was close to that area or at least it had a direct path to it, but anyway what I'm trying to say is that after doing every quest for the rebels in order to aid them, we begin the assault which felt kinda buggy as I've felt those bastards in the cave didn't participate, so of course every rebel dies in the attack and I'm the only one left, so I was just tired at this point and used cheats to wreck all the orcs… and when I finally killed the boss the quest ended and all I was left with was with a empty city filled with dead bodies and 2 or 3 slaves here and there pretending to do something… it was so anticlimactic, I was just bored, I feel there is more to it that got me to quit but I don't remember now, that's how bored I must've been…

  5. Story (spoiler alert) has never been a main focus in this game, and lets not forget the series started in the early 2000s, and yet the 3 titles combined created a depth I often miss today: Starting with the theme of war against the orcs in the 1st title, continued with the dragons in part 2, got defeated, and finally the orcs winning over humans entirely in part 3, but the player can choose its ending. The Xardas version of the story end with the world collapsing in chaos, with yet a note of hope for the future, just blew my mind.

  6. IMPORTANT:
Years ago a young girl was playing Gothic 3 when her computer overheated. Her computer started on fire. She lost her save data and she DIED in the horrible FIRE! She will never have peace due to the excruciating pain! Since you read this comment she will now appear at the foot of your bed tonight and kill you, unless you repost this comment and complete Gothic 3.

  7. NPCs dynamic level progression is the dumbest thing in RPGs. Leveling up and finding better gear becomes useless. The static one though like in Gothic and Rysen is the best implementation.

  8. I like this game (like all Piranha Bytes games) very much, but it can get monotonous with the constant "go to town -> raise reputation in town -> move on" system. Still, it's a great experience.

  9. I still have PTSD from those god damn machinegun wolves! (explanation: in release and early versions of the game wolves had extremely fast attack speed, combined with the fact that they practically always move in packs and can easily stagger you – these were most dangerous enemies in the game for a very long time)
Also the obnoxious friendly fire for thee but not for the groups of enemies was "fun" – orc warriors would just go "spin to win" while you could easily kill allies by accident…
Fortunately, both wolves and friendly fire were fixed in later versions but manually updating the game introduced another amusing bug/exploit – after the update your armor is removed from the character and placed into the inventory, but the stats of whatever armor you were wearing stayed permanently 😀
Also-also absolutely hilarious models – most of characters are bald because either devs or the engine itself is bad with hair.

  10. One small thing to add, u don´t have to download unofficial patch for steam, if you right klick the game -> properties -> betas -> cpt_1.75_testbranch – cpt_1.75_testbreanch is the unoffical 1.75 patch

  11. I remember playing this game when i was like 13. I learnt that the character can jump after 10 hours or so. For some reason this action was tied to num 0 and i somehow overlooked it in the controls.

  12. Great video Click, love it as always. I'd like to see a quick retrospective on Two Worlds I, I think it got a bad rap because of its awful x360 port but it's actually great fun, if a bit forgettable. The Soundtrack is absolutely amazing.

  13. Fuck me, that was a nice analysis!! I love Gothic 3 (best RPG imo) and you named so many things which didn't even occur to me being that unique.
Simply a great game. Can't even imagine how much greater it would have even been, if those morons at JoWood haven't had pushed the release…

  14. you are wrong this is exactly the quest structure that would work in modern open world games a vague main quest without any markers that requires to go around and to find the answers. and have to play a lot of content to reach something conclusive about that quest for it have a specific marker in the map or some location clue in a quest log. that would fix most boring open world games and allow freedom for a good portion of the game

  15. For me G3 was the first major disappointment in games. I was an avid fan of G1 and 2 before 3 released and I was a teenager at the time. G3 dissappointed me greatly. I see where you're coming from. You're a fan. But for me, community patch or no, the only redeeming quality of G3 is its music. Music is just awesome. The rest (animations, combat, voice acting, facial animations, story structure) just sucks and kills any prospect of ever playing this again.

  16. Glad this game is getting some love. I like it the most out of the three, despite its flaws, though I too can not stop thinking what it could have been, were it finished.
Brb, gotta play me that soundtrack again for the 1000th time.

  17. Gothic 3 is will always have a special place in my heart since this game is what got me into open world rpgs in the first place. My brother got this game and played all the time and I would enjoy watching; that’s all I could do since he wouldn’t let me play. When arcania came out my brother bought it and he was so disappointed so he gave it to me to play, that was my first gameplay experience with these kinds of games so I really enjoyed it. After arcania my brother deemed me old and skilled enough to try gothic 3 and boy oh boy was it different! The choices you get to make and the fact you can go wherever and you can swim! I was so happy to experience a game that left so much up to my choice and preference. After gothic 3 I got into skyrim and oblivion and the witcher 3. And even though I am a sucker for the graphic design in the witcher with all the details, I do enjoy the weird anatomy that gothic 3 had, because even though the humans look disproportionate, the surroundings completely make up for it. I also like that you actually need to think and explore and don’t get to be lazy with quest markers (although having played skyrim I did get a little lazy on that end and I do get frustrated sometimes when I can’t find what I am looking for, especially in the ruins of varant and in nordmar, I always get lost in nordmar). But I love the immersion of the quest system. I also enjoy the exploits of archery combined with high places and jumping up mountains to get those shortcuts (especially in nordmar). I really don’t have high standerds when it comes to combat systems though, I find that I enjoy complicated combat systems less because I am that person that keeps clicking, because I get scared easily XD it’s why archery is my go to because the exploit of high/safe places. I have not yet played gothic 1 and 2, but we have those games in our possession so I will be trying those in the future and see if gothic 3 is really as bad as some people make it out to be.

  18. Really well done video. I've never played this, but the way you describe the freedom of doing whatever you want is really enticing. It's why Skyrim is my favorite game. However all the other issues and how old it is, definitely make me hesitate.
