from what little of what we know of the pibby series my understanding is it's more of a representation of the company taking old shows and corrupting them into a marketable shrill of it's original self trying to make the series reboot seem hip and trendy with the kids. the black sludge is a representation of the shows being taken over by the company trying to turn them into something else, think about it with scooby doo and velma, the velma show is a hip and trendy reboot of the scooby doo series that messes with what wasn't broken, taking a show and plastering it's name on a different product is what the pibby series might be trying to tell for it's story, with what was leaked the corruption makes them talk with hip and trendy words like an algorithm similar to an ai that's learning what people want. the 4 main characters represent aspects of childhood shows that are easy to subcome to reboots, pibby represents educational shows, alloy boy represents the super hero shows, Melira represents disney movies, and bun bun represents the company's hold on the show's and using nostalgia to create new shows of existing shows.

I really, REALLY hope that the finn in the finn sword comes into play to fight his evil corrupted self in some indirect, or even direct, manner. Cause that'd be badass.
Also supposedly the corruption thing is sentient to some extent, and calls itself "The Darkness" and literally puppets those it takes over, seemingly using their memories to perfectly emulate them.
