Man, this quest had me push off away from my computer for a moment and sit there, in my chair, pondering on what the fuck just happened. "Intense" doesn't begin to describe it. I think it's a brilliantly written mission/side story.
I didn't nail him to the cross, I thought it was a gonk idea but was there for him in his final moments… It is kinda crayz considering how much murder and dismemberment you do in this game, but here in that moment it just felt… wrong to me. Funny how our moral code changes with certain people and their traditions all of a sudden. I also thought this was a brilliant quest and one of the few that had actually consequences, unlike 98% of the rest of the game, as you can also just straight up kill him or not come back at all. I kinda wanted him to become a martyr, sort of. The symbolism of this game is also something else, when two technically dead people, you and johnny, philosophize about life and death and mirror the last supper at the drive in restaurant, making you also somewhat jesus in disguise? One of the more mindbending quests in this game for sure. technically I am/was also raised roman catholic but do not really believe (any more). Still find religions highly fascinating and worth studying though. I have read my bible and quran, only thing missing for the abrahamitic religions for me would be a torah. Don't get me even started on buddhism, the book of the dead or other stuff, haven't even begun to dip my toes into that.
