  1. When does RE 7 and 8 take place in relation to 4?

I get mad las plaguas vibes from some of what they've shown, and it's obviously not an accident the whole game has the RE4 vibe what with a merchant and inventory case and whatnot. Also weren't those squiggly spiky things that slithered around with that horrible rattling sound in RE4 called maidens?

And leon was infected with las plaguas in RE4 just like ethan is infected with lychanthropy.

    Just saying.. RE8 is RE4-2

  2. While I 100% believe the whole "man" thing in RE8 stems from the Japanese male culture (see: any harem anime ever… f*ck… the fact that there even is a harem genre…), there have been a few horror media that use this trope (The Wicker Man comes to mind).
About "digesting" Hitman 3… exactly. IO makes these levels so dense, so intricate, so replayable that it can be overwhelming for players, even causing some to not even complete more than 20% of a map. And that is why I say they should have told gamers to shut up and continued to release episodically, as they did with the first season. It forces (in a good way) players to learn all the ins-and-outs of a map, find all the hidden treats and enjoy more of the developers' work that they otherwise would have completely missed. Who here has found the Untitled Goose Game easter egg in Germany?

  3. On the topic of bullies I also haven't seen a lot of media that portrays them accurately. There are films about kids that have accurately portrayed how shocking violence is common to groups and that have shown the capacity in children to be swayed to apathy. So there's Kids (1995) and Bully (2001) from Larry Clark. There is also Alpha Dog (2006) and An American Crime (2007). There's also the book Lord of the Flies that accurately displays group violence and shows the singling out process as one that happens early, well before extreme violence occurs.

I was choked out in middle school by a kid who liked to punch the wall, the sort of guy who would take a knife to school and was seen as trouble and had other troublemakers around him who liked to punch the wall and smelled of cigarettes, these kids weren't bullied themselves, they were feared and people managed their distance from them. But there was also the general bullying that one undergoes when you don't fit in anywhere.

So in elementary school none of the kids felt comfortable around me and there was always somebody who was happy to knock my jacket or backpack from the rack. When a line was formed that was passing me by if one child kicked me in the foot all of the other children did too. I'm sure there have been accurate and believable portrayals of both in media. I haven't seen Carrie, for instance, could that be the ticket?

  4. The Resident Evil demo doesn't explain why they emphasize "man blood" so much, but it does provide some potential extra context. (spoilers below)

SPOILERS FOR THE DEMO AND POTENTIALLY FOR THE FULL-GAME: There is a document on the ground floor in the demo that lists a bunch of female names. 3 of them are referred to as "successful candidates” — Irina, Mihaela, and Lois — and 12 are listed as failed “rejects”. The 3 successful candidates are likely the 3 "vampires" that capture Ethan in the trailer.

We also find the body of a dead woman in the dungeons, a diary of a woman who worked in the castle, and the demo is titled "Maiden", suggesting we are playing as a woman. All of this suggests that the tall lady (Lady Dimitrescu) is kidnapping or luring women into the castle and attempting to transform them or kill them, which would explain why they're not used to "man blood".

Why kidnap women specifically and why the game is going for this theme? no idea

  5. I think the Showcase did show off the power of the next gen consoles. I think something that frankly I think critics and pundits need to do more is assess the scope of the game that they can see when discussing graphical fidelity. Yes, it doesn't look like a huge leap from Resident Evil 7 it terms of graphics, but also, remember the scope of Resident Evil 7 and compare it to what we saw today. Resident Evil 7 was mostly closed environments with little to no AI most of the time. When there is AI, it's usually either just 1 or 2 enemies, or a Boss in a Boss Arena. Just your character and the environment. Compare that to Village, and we have much larger arenas with many enemies at once, and big sweeping attacks, lots of AI to process, etc. I agree with Ben, I think that by announcing the game for Last Gen (which they probably have done simply because they know they'll sell more), they have to have compromised the experience in some way, and that's a disappointment.

Also, Ethan is searching for his Kidnapped Daughter. If you play the Maiden demo, you'll probably have a good idea why she was kidnapped too.

  6. 1) Of course RE will never fully go into supernatural. The game is called Biohazard in Japanese, so there will always be some sort of scientific explanation to it.

    2) Missed out on Cave Story, the most important indie game of them all.

    3) A lot of anime and Japanese media is set in high school or schools because of nostalgia. Also the fact that it's the period where most people especially in Asia wish they could go back to and relive because it's the time just before graduation that people have the least amount of responsibility. As somebody who has been through a similar education system, It's also the time where your lifelong friends are made because you've been through it all together. Many people hang out in schools after classes for extra curricular activities, do homework and etc just like in Persona and many Japanese anime you see. You have no idea how many people in their mid 20s and 30s in Asia would choose to go back to their school days if given a time machine.

  7. The reason so much media is directed at teens is the same reason it's always been. Teens have the most disposable income. Most have part time jobs and pretty much none of them have bills so all income they get they're free to spend on whatever they want. This has been the case since the 80's didn't anyone there take a media history class? 😂
