Canucks news: can the Canucks win 3 out of 4 games in their remaining season series?

At 16-16-3 for 35 points in 35 games, the Canucks will likely need 14 or 15 wins in their remaining 21 games to make the playoffs.

They have 4 games left against Calgary, Ottawa, Toronto, and Winnipeg…and 5 games left against Edmonton.

So can they beat each of these 5 teams three times?

  1. 1. What did you think of Holtby's game last night?
    2. What do you think Friedman's assertion that the Canucks may take a "wait and see" attitude with respect to the trade deadline?
    3. Can the Canucks win 3 out of 4 in all 5 season series?

  2. Holtby played well, it was just a tough loss. It will be a difficult task but i think the canucks have a chance to make the playoffs if they continue to play like they have recently.

  3. I think Holtby was good considering he hadn’t played for the past two and a half weeks. I also noticed that the team seems to want to play more for Demko than they do for Holtby. They just don’t seem to have that chemistry with him yet. I think the Canucks can take all 4 with Ottawa, 3 with Toronto and Edmonton, but not sure about Calgary and Winnipeg especially since Winnipeg is a good team. I worry about those two back to backs in April where they go from Edmonton to Winnipeg that’s rough.

  4. Holtby was fine last night. We did not support him very well. And us making up those games is monumental. And by trade deadline it will be to late for any deal, unless they move a more valuable player from the lineup. Which means one of our good young players just to lose even if we make it in. I think we are a team that is no where near playoff ready. Good but not that good. Entertaining hockey though.

  5. I'm not happy with that news at all man. Really shortsighted thinking. I don't understand their love of mediocrity. (Owner and Gm.) We can make the playoffs i have no doubt. Will we is another question.

  6. Hi Clay, do you think Canucks should claim Travis Boyd on waivers and trade Beagle, Sutter, Roussel? Boyd is having a better season then all of them and is much cheaper and younger, probably faster

  7. clay do you think the canucks may claim travis boyd off waivers from toronto like they did with jimmy vesey? he seems like a good bottom six forward on a cheap contract…do you have any thoughts?

  8. 1) Pray that Seattle takes Holtby, because he's dragging us down right now, and be their problem.
    2) If they aren't getting the right offers (and let's face it, realistically, you're looking at very low draft picks for most of our UFAs and MAYBE B or C-level prospects) you're far better off hanging on until near the deadline (and see how this homestand goes, because if they don't at least win all of these games there's no chance they'll be able to make up enough ground in time) and wait for more desperate teams. Trading assets just to trade them for more than nothing in my eyes is just as bad as losing them for nothing in UFA, you need to get something tangible back or you're just weakening your own team for nothing. It's also a weird year with all the COVID restrictions and that makes trades a lot harder to do when you're talking about quarantine requirements and testing and not being able to practice with your new team and get used them until it's almost too late to have any impact.
    3) Probably not, too many holes and weaknesses in the systems and lineup, that's both on Green for his inability to get the team prepared game in, game out and on Benning for not getting the right players in the lineup.

  9. Idk why people didn’t like holbys game, most of his goals weren’t his fault. Also what is Benning doing, I wish Aquilini can fire him. Aquilini honestly hires the worst Gms ever, Canucks management ain’t thinking of the bigger picture, their truly stupid

  10. I wouldnt ever blame Holtby for straight up losses.

But the fact is Demko is "freakishly" consistent. Its not that Holtby is bad whatsoever, it just hurts my soul wondering: "Mmm Demko maybe would have locked this up for a non tiebreaker win".

Theres players im more disappointed in than Braden for sure. But Goalie is always in the limelight.

  11. Hate to admit it, but winning 2/3rds of the remaining games seems unrealistic for the wildly inconsistent Canucks this season. Especially with no EP40. Mind you, "Bubble Demko" could prove to be a huge wild card. I'd definitely love to see the Canucks make the playoffs (as you never know what can happen) but a nice draft pick would be an ok consolation prize… I guess?

  12. it doesnt matter if montreal outpointed us. IF they dont win enough games against the other teams we can beat them out. Cmon Clay you know better then that. I thought you were mr positive now your just being overly simplistic. They went 14-0-2 in 2001 2002 so dont tell me its not possible. You need to be more on positive side forget the odds lets just hope they get wins One at a time.
