The 1990s: N64.com, ANT Video Games on AOL, and Goldeneye on SNES

If you played video games in the 1990s, in particular around 1996 or later, you might remember AOL keyword ANT for the Antagonistic video games network as well as N64.com, the website for Nintendo 64 news that eventually became IGN.com. In this video, I also mentioned an issue of Nintendo Power that once told of how Goldeneye 007 was originally going to be developed for Super Nintendo, also known as SNES and Super NES.

Back in those days, if you had an AOL keyword, it was one of the easiest ways to access content. Searching the web was not always as easy as it is now. Google wasn’t always around, and other websites like excite.com and webcrawler.com were the big names at the time.

AOL keyword ANT would take you to the Antagonistic video games network where you could discuss games on message boards such as PSX Fortress, N64 Fortress, PC Fortress, and Dreamcast Fortress.

N64.com would publish daily news about Nintendo 64 games, which was exciting to come home to after a long day at school.

There would also be magazines like Electronic Gaming Monthly and Official PlayStation Magazine, but the internet allowed readers to find news on an almost daily basis.
