Globally, the industry is worth an estimated $US175 billion, which is more than Hollywood and the music industry combined.

As business booms, so too does competition for your attention and money.

For this Four Corners investigation, we go deep into the business models used by the gaming industry and examine how some games are being deliberately designed to extract maximum time and money from players.

With the growth of artificial intelligence and the mining of data from social media accounts, game analysts say players are often unaware of how they’re being manipulated.
