  1. That's over 11,000 attempts per second.

  2. And how many actual customers were blocked? The last 5 Walmart drops I spent doing captcha after captcha after captcha without ever even getting one in my cart. That's even more infuriating than having it disappear from my cart. I'm not even trying to get through them any more.

  3. This is essentially HFT (High Frequency Trading) on physical goods. If it’s not considered a problem on the financial markets, why should it be in the real world ? Also, it’s just the "natural" laws of the market applying. High demand + low supply => high prices. The problem is those high prices are not reflected in the official supply chain creating an opportunity for scalpers. Another option would have been to produce more which would have reduced the incentive to scalp but clearly wasn’t feasible during a pandemic. TL;DR : MSRP is set way too low

  4. Why dont people just wait a year before getting a new system? Theres usually some hardware issues on newly released consoles, and there are usually better bundle and/or system variation later down the road. It baffles me, why people are purposely letting themselves get ripped off by scalpers.

  5. its so bizarre how you just try being a good person, I remember how bad I felt the first time I was payed to do something, felt like stealing from somebody who has bills to pay. But scalpers wouldn't be able to comprehend such things.

  6. I guess they figured out that scalpers hurt their bottom line. Consoles are one thing, but that's a massive loss of subscriptions and game purchases online.

  7. I want the "grinch bots" name to stick, because in my opinion it describes the practice in a more appropriate light since it inconveniences everyone besides the people taking all the extra units.

  8. Just another reason I'm not allowed to be in charge of laws.
    1: Loot boxes is gambling
2: Card games are not loot boxes
3: Anything that deals with "Microtransactions" are at least T for teen, but I'd push for "M"
4: Companies can charge bots for the things they purchase, and chose not to send them anything.

  9. Scalpers went too far. It would be fun to see them sit on their investments with no profit. Since the release of PS5 there have been no restocks where i live and it was sold out in minutes. Hopefully i'll be able to acquire one before the end of 2024. Ah well. At least i'll be able to get some some suprise mechanics in the mean time.

  10. Probably is not legal but, why not do they put a purchase limit to online orders, a certain number let's say 100 units per person, and if a person wants to purchase a bigger amount of units has to be verified and approved by the retailer

  11. And how many of those attempts were blocked BEFORE they were sold out? It's nice publishing happy-sounding information that way, but… just knowing that tiny portion of the statistics doesn't give us the whole picture, does it? It might be that they only had 1000 available, so the rest of the bot attempts were denied just like any normal human was, because they were already sold out. It sounds nice, and it's good PR, but…. I'll take this with a BIG grain of salt.

  12. I hope retailers keep up the work on blocking ALL scalpers. Because NOTHING would make me happier then to start seeing scalpers being forced to sell the consoles they have for LESS then retail price and for them to LOSE ALL the money they put into buying them. That would honestly make me just utterly gleeful to see the scalpers SUFFER.

  13. The MAJORITY of blame is put onto Sony, Microsoft AND the retailers themselves. By doing online ONLY sales they have done nothing but ENABLE scalpers to buy massive quantities of consoles. If they would start doing IN STORE sales then that would stop scalpers cold. By doing IN STORE ONLY sales, with a limit of ONE consoles PER HOUSEHOLD, scalpers would not be able to buy thousands of consoles. So while Sony, Microsoft and retailers are constantly apologizing for everything, they are ultimately NOT sorry for any of it because they are still making money and have done NOTHING to stop the scalpers and STILL REFUSE to do IN STORE sales. So all the apologies in the world means NOTHING if they do NOTHING to fix the issue.

  14. Where legality ends is when a Denial of Service condition is caused. It is considered a cyber attack, even if it is an attempt to purchase. So it is already illegal and will be even more illegal soon.

  15. you say that they have to buy from these scalpers but that's just not true, if everyone just waited, and didn't buy from scalpers, they wouldn't do it, the scalpers are driven by customer action, if everyone stopped and didn't give them money there would be no scalpers, period

  16. NEVER buy from scalpers. The best thing that can happen here is that they are unable to sell those units for profit. Have patience and get it directly from approved retail. Then the scalpers will be at a loss and that is their worst case scenario.

    Fuck scalpers!

  17. As long as true gamers unite and just wait out for the actual consoles to come out in legit stores for the price that it's supposed to be scalpers gonna be taking a huge L profit wise, patience is the main key my fellow gamers 🙏
