  2. Star Wars Republic Commando. Definitely not a horror game, but the start of the second zone where you explore the derelict ship will certainly give you the creeps the first time you play it. The ship is abandoned and dark. You can only find one living clone trooper who is too scared to do anything, and is promptly killed off by something unseen. You then travel alone in pitch black darkness where your radio fades in and out with static. Below a grate, you see a brief glimpse of clones fighting only to dash out of sought, followed by a loud roar and then their screams. Then you see their lifeless bodies get hurled back into view. Keep going and you eventually find dead clones and severed limbs and heads/helmets.

There are very few games that have nailed that lingering feeling of dread as you are torn between your curiosity of what happened/know that you have a mission to compete vs the overwhelming desire to get the hell out of there

  3. What would being chased by SCP-173 knowing your own human need to blink could be your own demise be called? SCP-173's constant chasing and movement mechanic is a unique type of fear I haven't felt with much else.

  4. Dead Space was terrifying! The parts in the elevator were especially tense – like you know something is going to attack you but you just have to wait like a sitting duck for it! Ended up having to pause it in places because I got so worked up XD

  5. I like watching videos like this but I just can’t get past the narrator’s voice….it’s his cadence at the end of his sentences….I really wanted to be able to finish it but I noped out. 😞

  6. I'm sad to say this, but I think P.T. will only be around for as long as there are working PS4s that can run it. Konami has made it their mission to bury that demo. They've been throwing C&Ds at fans trying to recreate it on PC and have even gone as far as keeping P.T. from going backwards compatible on the PS5.

Konami has put more effort into killing P.T. than they have with developing Metal Gear: Survive and Contra: Rogue Corps combined.

  7. One other great use of horror in games is the minimal use of lighting, like in Bioshock for example…
    1. You never know what else is in the room.
    2. Your sense of hearing can be thrown out of whack
    3. One wrong step and you’re dead

  8. no one is talking about the jump scare in fatal frame, in the window that overlooks a zen garden. usually every time you look at something , it's that and nothing scary. I screamed when I looked out a window and a kid ghost pops up !!

  9. How is until dawn not on this list? It puts you in the driver seat of almost every major horror trope and your every decision has consequences. It got so popular it got a vr prequel and spawned a whole new series of games built around the idea it was created on. It makes not only the major choices stressful but the smaller ones to.
