In this Valheim video, we talk about some things I feel lead to the massive success of Valheim.

In my opinion they should lower the amount of skill lvls that you lose when you die.
nice video thanks perfect game l hope devs sort little bits out ,it missing option for new world with no console possibility for cheats, bin recycling unwanted items, bigger inventory option, sort grave disappearing error ,add training dummy 🙂
Watch this on mute for how to make a cozy comfy wood house in snow biome + a handy workshop tower
Actually I agree on everything, mostly about the part of being tired of getting punished resources wise when you make some building mistake. Great content as always, take care.
needs pvp
To relax I play Valheim. When I need anarchy and action I play BF4
This game still run like a dogshit – hope they will improve this – I expect 200fps, not 70 on start of the game with 3080
Basically 3D terraria. I love it!!
Yeah if conan had the same exact building system like valheim or Minecraft it would be more well known, you see the problem with video game companies is that they focus in specific parts of the game and leave other parts lacking for instance conan exiles gave crazy amounts on the music lore and the aesthetic of the game but gave not so much focus on other parts of the game like the progression of the game the building and crafting and you end up with a game looking and sound great but lacking in others making you feel that they could have done more…
Valheim on the other hand gives equal amounts of focus to every part of the game, every part that makes up the game isn't something special on its own but put together they make something amazing because there was focus on each and every part of the game
Playing with friends against the game and not some cyber athletes. Having our own pace through the progression, this is what made our 150h+ journey to this game so exciting
Great video discussion, a lot of my feelings as well as a game designer. They got a lot right because they took the time to consider what aspects worked in other games. I also assume they considered that makes a game FUN. A lot of games today you feel kind of slugging through long editorial content, or such high end graphics you need top of the line machines to play it. Optimization is beautifully done, and they seemed to understand that if the gameplay, risk vs reward and a player shouldn't be required to invest thousand of hours into a game to achieve something. It just works well.
I'd like to add to your list, the simplified UI and feeling when you pick up a new items, how rewarding it is to see a new craft. That with the wonderful clings and clangs sound effects, the natural sounds, and the water effect, some of the best water physics I've ever seen in a game, it's definitely worthy by at the price they sell it. These all add to a wonderful experience, Iron Gate and the Dev's are a shining beacon that small games can still be fun to play and don't require million dollar budgets to produce.
very true i am sick of low content games now we need better in this day
Ftb like minecraft modders would be really nice in this game.
My favorite part is no quests very minimum NPCs like one it's a world to explore and build and your entirely left alone not constantly pestered to do something
Hey i have a question. how do you make your server only spawn 2 star monsters? I saw some servers that all their mobs are 2stars. Kinda want to know how to do that too.
I think Irongate did a great job with the tech progression for building, armour and especially tools and weapons. Wood to stone, stone to flint, flint to copper and bronze and then iron and other materials feels natural and rewarding. I absolutely love how you can upgrade tools and armour so it doesn't feel obsolete most of the time if you do have to downgrade back to a cheaper material now and then. My one gripe about this material system would be how two copper ingots and one tin only make one bronze ingot. When you create bronze alloy, volumetrically and mass wise you should lose nothing. Two copper plus one tin should make three bronze ingots. I understand it's a game mechanic to keep people in the "bronze age" longer and farm more but it is rather unnecessary to me.
"Building isnt resource intensive" Also shows gameplay of building with unlimited resource cheats and not legitimately obtained resources. Okay sure.
For me its super relaxing game with stress when you want it
For me it's the nostalgic feeling, simplicity, environment and building. At first I was about to quit when I reached the mountain cause It felt so hard it was impossible to solo but I pushed through and now I just beat the last boss solo and spend my time building.
If i dident get my rescources back, I would be so finished with this game
I love the building aspect and the simple fact you play with your group of friends to make your own story line.
Here are some of my thought:
-Valheim shared similar sense of progression to Terraria, from basic, leather, bronze, iron and so on, and having to defeat bosses to progress further(bonus: both also separate player and world)
-It doesn't take itself seriously, in fact I don't think it really mainly a survival game, you won't starve to death or anything, eating food sure give higher survivability but you won't die without them, the game also don't punishing you a lot like other survival yet still give some fair amount of stuffs to manage such as raids, it's not overwhelming.
-Building is not just a creative outlet but also a part of the game, you have to build wall and roof to be able to craft stuff on crafting table, it encouraging you to build things not just as creative outlet, like building a base in Minecraft or arena in Terraria.
This game is not without it flaws, I don't think going for pixel graphic is the best idea for game like Valheim, even if they want to, I think at least adding some extra resolution, another reason is to fit with particle effects, some are pixelated but some are highly detailed it's a bit confusing on which direction this game aesthetic will head into.
Valheim also is an early access game being done right, the game had it core not a heavily unfinished mess, plus lack of bugs too which is refreshing for early access.
I literally just had a night last night where I didn’t really feel like doing too much. Just had a few beers and farmed, did some smelting, fought off a few skelly invasions with my Frostner. Such a good game man.
I feel like this game is almost a perfect blend of Dark Souls and Minecraft lol
You missed the ability to repair items. Major plus for me.
you know the truth is the reason is so successful is because its viking af
I'm unsure how I feel about ore and portals. I WANT to make things easier in terms of tedium, but I don't wanna use mods. Maybe if there were an upgraded portal that could teleport ores? Maybe made with some iron, so you have to at least have visited and explored the swamp. Or maybe to portal each ore, you have to upgrade the portal with that specific ore? Like, can't portal copper or tin until you make the bronze portal, and so on.
What is your world seed?
I'll go deconstruct my forge, I was nervous that I won't get back the resources.
I think Valheim appeals to so many people outside the usual survival game crowd because while it has those satisfying survival craft aspects, it's not punishing (aside from the death penalty but hey, mods!). the volumetric lighting and immersive atmosphere makes it just feel nice to play, when the aesthetics alone in some of these games are enough to turn people like me off them lol. and yeah sure it can do with some qol upgrades, but it's in early access, there's plenty of time to add that, and the meat of the game is enough to make it enjoyable so far.
my only major downside is how badly it runs on my computer haha, that and the terraforming thing makes me kinda unable to do the big builds i want ;;3;
The weather effects! The first time you are out on the ocean and a storm rolls in and you are crashing through the waves, having your ship tossed around. Amazing! So much to love about this game. Great video brother <3
Its a good game but it seems just like a low rez graphics version of ARK or Conan exiles the graphics are miles behind those games.
1. Vikings. Vikings are fotm. Vikings are super hip right now. 2. Multiplayer and punishing death system. If you die with your bud it makes the pain so much more easy to take. The death mechanic is brutal so having friends to watch them die or help you death run is really fun. 3. Survival mechanics are in right now. Survival games are really hip. Building games bring in billions each year. It's super addictive in the pace of the game to keep taking one more day in valheim. Remember this dev tried to make a factory game that was very similar, but satisfactory was too futuristic and too ahead of it's time. They were very much following the heard to combine Vikings and survival in a multiplayer game.
Still needs to be optimized. 2070 and I9 shouldn't be at 40-90 frames.
