Thanks to product placement, virtual worlds have been invaded by real life problems. But a few retro titles go far beyond product placement, and in this installment of Retro Gaming Freak Show, we look at Pepsiman, Darkened Skye, and other games that were nothing more than playable commercials.

PEPSI MAN!!!
What other games were just straight up commercials?
This guy’s face is exactly the sort of face of a gaming man that knows what he’s talking about. A fat nerdy man, with nachos stained fingers.
Yaayy..one of the early comentors ..can i kindly get a like
burger king and pepsi man should be on this list
What about the Spot 7 Up game and the Noid pizza hut game?!
I'd taste Skye's rainbow.
KFC made colonel Sanders dating game
Kinda want to play pepsi man now 🤣
Darkened Skye has alot more history take wasn't touched on here. It is however touched on in the AGDQ run.
they forgot 7up spot
Where do you live that Burger Kings are open at 1 am?
Where'd the doctor go?
We liked Sneak King.
Did this dweeb just talk shit bout Primus!?
In some contexts, I think natural product placement can be good. Say you're making a game set in a city, in modern times. It'll feel more authentic if instead of parody products (well maybe some if they're also part of a quest) you sell the in-game billboards to companies. Like how in Homestuck the characters are fans of real pieces of media, except for when that media is related to like the HorrorTerrors. And for some legal reasons I don't entirely get you can't just gather adds and put them in your game. Of course, the devs have to be responsible about this. Don't let an entire company buy an unreasonable amount of add space just because its cheaper than it is IRL. Don't get greedy and put in more add spots than reasonable.
Chexquest.
Darkened Skye kind of looks awesome, but you kept on saying it was bad. Why? What was actually wrong with it?
SneaKing was pretty fun
Avoid the Noid!
I feel like a hamburger 🍔 and a Pepsi now 🤣😂
