Control PS5 vs Xbox Series X Ray Tracing 'Benchmark' – Unlocked FPS In Photo Mode!

Did you know that Control’s photo mode removes the 30fps cap in the ray traced graphics mode? It opens a window into the kind of overhead (or lack of it, in some cases) left over when a 30fps cap is introduced, but in the case of Control, it also allows us to stack up Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5’s RT prowess in precisely matched in-game scenarios. Alex and Rich discuss.

  1. Would be nice to see developers implementing a checkbox to unlock the frame rate moving forward. VRR display users would be able to turn it off. Or perhaps even a slider that would allow to set the limit from any value from 30 all the way to 60 and also disable it. A resolution slider would be cool as well. Imagine: locked 40 with RT at 1080p? Possible. Unlocked between 40 and 70 with RT at 1440p with VRR? Possible. Silky-smooth 1080p between 60 and 120fps? Possible.

    Well, guess that's why I am a PC gamer…

  3. Has there been any comment from the DF guys that the PS5 raytracing looks ever so slightly more detailed than that of the Series X?

It's a genuine question coz I'd lay money if the SX had better implemented ray tracing it would have been mentioned!

  4. I think Richard is a low-key Racist. Who the fuck doesn't know wha 'El Jefe' means in Spanish? Stack that Willful ignorance with that one Episode where they tried to Parady the PS3 Hispanic guy, talking with Ebonics…. Ya. Richard looks like the kind of guy to Dawn Black Face and claim to be Ignoranct of any sort of Wrong doing.

He comes off as an Arrogant self asbord Person whose self importance is grater than those around him.

  5. DF ? I have a question , and im asking this because i realy wonder. At the 3:45 mark , at the ps5 side you see reflection on the floor of that white map . But on the XsX side its absent. Why ? Is it a lighter form of RTX on the XsX ? Was it even on ? Nobody else is talking about in a video and i realy wanna know.

  7. This is the worst and laziest "Next gen" port I ever seen so far. The ps5 version is disgusting. Performance mode is basically ps4 pro at 60 fps, which is decent but less than the minimum expected for a supposedly native PS5 game. The ray tracing is pathethic. Horribly feeling 30fps mode that somehows feels slower and more awkward to control than PS4 pro version (which I've finished) and the resolution is even lower, it's a blurry mess at points. And the RT is absolutely crap. Terrible all around.

  8. Been playing this great game on my PS5. Performance mode all the way. That 60fps is just amazing. Hope they can tie all of this together and give us 4K 60fps. Maybe that will happen on the PS5 Pro 🤔.

  9. So the developers locked the frames to 30 on Xbox Series X, so they capped frames to protect playstation from getting exposed big time, thanks DF for bringing attention to this situation stuff like this is unacceptable unlock the frames don't punish me because the ps5 can't keep up

  10. 3:47 So nobody is going to call out that the PS5 was using more ray tracing at this point in time? I knew that this channel was fake but this isn't even a fair comparison.

Xbox series x is using lower detailed ray tracing.

  11. If you get closer to the TV, you can see that the picture from the PS5 is sharper. That would perhaps explain the performance advantage of the Xbox SX.

For example @ 9:00 the writing "dead letters" on the sign in the background is much sharper on the PS5

  12. DOF Biased performance test ever. XboxSeriesX is more powerful … If you take out the IO, SSD CPU. Anyway … leave only the GPU working "in all" video games and computers. Nothing in today's computing works with a GPU alone. So, this is the most indifferent performance test I've ever seen.

  13. A lot of corner cutting to literally force these new consoles to run subpar raytracing. Not worth it at all unless you have the hardware that can handle it. Half res rt looks far inferior to Shadow maps/baked in lighting.
