I think the reason why the press circled the wagons on games like TLOU2 is because they want to Hollywoodize video games
If at the end of the TLOU 2 you were given the option to torture and kill Abby, it would be well deserving of the award.
Devil May Cry 5 deserved more awards than the one it got that year.

But how could you not care about Abby's dad…HE SAVED A ZEBRA THAT MADE HIM THE BEST DAD EVER! Also Game Awards are entirely useless and have been for a long long time. Last of us Part 1 had 140 game of the year awards. It means nothing when you get to numbers that high.
