Full Testing Details
• All testing was conducted by myself and after the Cayo Perico Heist DLC, meaning all platforms were running the same version before next gen enhanced editions were released (PS5, PS4 Pro and PS4 were all running the PS4 version of the game for example).
• Loading conditions were made as equal as possible (loading into the apartment online for example).
• Timers start and footage is synced to when the button is pressed to initially launch the game or online session, and stops as soon as any in game character animation is displayed. An extra 2 seconds is added to the footage for video purposes, but the time reported does not take this into account.
• All platforms had the game installed digitally. None utilised discs.
• All platforms were loading from a cold boot, with each completely shut down before starting up the game (no use of quick resume for example).
• All platforms were connected to the same wired internet connection with tests done on the same day at approximately the same time.
• All consoles were as they were sold, with default storage and stock parts. PC specs were: Intel Core i7-7700K CPU; Gigabyte NVIDIA GTX 1080 GPU; 16 GB Corsair Vengeance 3200 MHz RAM; 250 GB Crucial MX500 SSD (game only, OS on different drive).
• A public online session test was not conducted due to the inherent variation in internet connections for a peer to peer based game, and the lack of control in the number of people to connect to in any given public session.
• This was the second version of this video after a patch improved load times for PC invite only sessions. A second invite only test wasn’t needed for this version, and all other platforms (plus PC story mode) remained the same a the previous video: https://youtu.be/w4IFuucL58k

  1. Now if only they'd fix the single player load time issue where they show a video file, then some legal stuff, then only after they've wasted roughly 15 seconds of your time do they start actually loading anything. I wonder if consoles suffer from the same issue or if this is another case of them screwing up the PC version. Guess I'll have to wait another 8 years to find out.

    Conclusions

    • This is the second version of this video and comes only a few weeks after the first, which showed significantly higher load times for PC Invite Only sessions (over 2 minutes). The game since received a patch which fixed this after a member of the community named T0ST found the cause of the issue. He was awarded $10,000 IRL by Rockstar for his efforts. You can see the effect this had in this comparison from my second channel: https://youtu.be/0X-2iV0mrTM, and details of T0ST's work are here: http://bit.ly/3cGzAi9

    • We'll get PC out of the way first since it's so contingent on individual specs, but even so I was surprised it lagged behind the Series X and PS5 despite the game being on an SSD and having a reasonably decent setup. Higher specs, specifically in the SSD department, would naturally produce faster times, but then most people are likely not running the best specs at any given moment. I'll be revisiting this test when the enhanced versions come out for PS5 and Series X, and by then I'll have a PC with an SSD that is on par with what's in those consoles.

    • In general there was a clear distinction between the sub generations of consoles, with both PS5/XSX always being quicker than PS4 Pro/XB1 X, which in turn were always quicker than base PS4/XB1. However it's also clear that the gap in performance between PS5/XSX and PS4 Pro/XB1 X is much larger than the gap between PS4 Pro/XB1 X and base PS4/XB1.

    • Another surprising result, given how badly the game runs on the base XB1 in comparison to the base PS4, is how in the initial load test every Xbox beat out every Playstation within each sub-generation. While the Sony consoles bucked that trend to some degree in loading online, the differences there were a lot smaller and the Microsoft consoles did very well.

    • The quickest way to get into GTA Online from a cold boot as of the publishing of this video is by playing on an Xbox Series X, with Playstation 5 taking 10 seconds longer. You save yourself approximately 1 minute 15 seconds of loading times in this situation if you upgrade to the new gen consoles from a PS4 Pro or XB1 X, and around 1 minute 45 seconds if you're upgrading from the base PS4 or XB1. The slowest way to get into GTA Online from a cold boot is by playing the game on the base PS4, taking well over 3 minutes of pure loading screens.

It's rare for me to do a video without voiceover so it's strange to be talking to you all via this description box (assuming anyone reads it) but nevertheless I hope this was an interesting video. I figured since I recently upgraded to the new gen platforms and have one of each console in the house, I was perfectly placed to do a thorough test of this. And there's no better time than now before the enhanced editions release and the PS5/XSX versions of the game diverge from the PS4/XB1 versions. Let me know your thoughts in the comments, and thanks for watching!

  3. Hello everyone I'm Broughy1322 and this video is gonna show the fastest fully upgraded Load Times in the GTA Online franchise in the platforms class

  4. This also introduced a freezing issue on the Xbox 1 during boot up if you try to load directly into online, and patched the Nat check method of emptying public lobbies.

  5. They have made billions over this game and it has been out for almost a decade. Some guy they tossed 10 grand ends up solving one of the most annoying things of the game. They really don't feel like they have to do jack shit to get money out of gamers. Same game, still has no FPS on PS4 even tho it was a PS3 game. Same none – new content and some random guy can slash their loading times who gets bumped off for 10 grand. I would hope thats his first bonus after they give him a good job because the publicity alone on this will net rockstar 100 times that.

  6. Of course they listen for the community for once and patch the loading times AFTER you made a huge comparison video. OF COURSE. Btw still rip me, I am STILL on a base PS4.

  7. Note for the PC – the Crucial MX500 has a read speed of 560 MB/s. A modern PC can support a PCIE 4.0 NVMe drive from western digital with read speeds of 7,000 MB/s (12.5x as fast). I'd love to see the difference there.

  8. In case anyone wanted to know an average time for a nvme ssd as opposed to a data ssd, loading into a public server that had anywhere from 12-20 players took me an average of 45 seconds to load from a single player to the public server

  9. The PC will use the CPU to decompress all the assets when loading and it is only a 4 core 8 thread CPU so perhaps that plays a factor in the slower loading. Though looking it up its SSD is only a SATA 3 one and not NVMe so yeah, that will also make a difference no doubt.

  10. And people say Xbox is worse than ps4

Actually the original Xbox one is generally worse than the ps4 in all games (look at digital foundry) so I’m surprised it beat the ps4 here but the Xbox one x and series x is no surprise

Thanks for the tests I was just asking about the one x on your other video on the second channel

4:20 yup that’s pretty much the lineup of the generations

    Series x<ps5<one x<ps4 pro<ps4<Xbox one

Again I’m surprised the Xbox one was faster than the ps4

I wonder what a $500 dollar pc could do if you bought it today

Yes the series x is $500 you reading this may not have payed $500 because you got scammed by a scalper but I’m not buying the series x till it’s $500 again like my Xbox one x

Even if they were back in stock I wouldn’t buy it now because the first generation of things always has problems

Imagine paying $800-$1000 to beta test for the rest of us patient people

  11. There was no change on PS4 loading into story or online, but the game does occasionally freeze upon entering certain properties while in a public session such as the arcade and nightclub.

  12. I wonder if loading straight into online is actually faster now

All these years I would load into single player then load into online because it was always faster but damn maybe just pressing online first is faster now
