  1. I'm all for devs taking inspiration from each other, that's how gaming has evolved, but in this case, it feels like Big Fish blatantly taking advantage of Little Fish's idea without much effort to put their own spin on it.

  2. Like so many others, you are only seeing things in a shallow surface level. They did put their own twist on it:

    – Imposter's world is with in the Fortnite Islands, it is under water in the command center that controls what happens on the islands. Among Us is based on a Space ship. So already a different location than Among Us.

    – Imposter has a storyline, it is integrated into the "Imagined Order" storyline first introduced in Feb 2020 and related to the Agent Jones storyline, a traitor of the Imagined Order. Among Us has no storyline. So already a different setting than Among Us, and it actually a part of a storyline unlike Among Us with no storyline.

    – None of the locations on the Imposter Map is named the same as the location names on Among Us Map

    – "imposter" is a generic word with a specific meaning that fits what the player is. It is no different than the games that use the terms "Armor" "HP" "MP" "Ammo" "Ammo Pack" "Skill points" and so on. There is as much of a reason to not use Imposter as there is to not use any of those words I listed in any other game.

    – Imposter is in a 3d world, Among Us is in a 2D world. This change in perspective also changes the gameplay and changes player behavior, players have to do things differently in a 3d space compared to a 2d space, there are different considerations that will effect their behavior.

    – In Imposter the imposters are able to help out with the non imposter tasks, unlike Among Us. This brings in a new strategy for the imposter, because helping out brings the tasks to closer completion and when those are complete before the imposter complete his mission he loses, but helping out with the tasks can also help him hide in plain site, again, unlike Among Us where the imposter cannot help with the tasks so his strategy is going to be different in Among Us.

    – There is a disguise mechanic where everyone is disguised temporarily. This makes it so nobody can tell who anybody is, which would give the imposter some obvious advantages.

So with all of these combined, it makes "Imposter" have significant changes that differentiate itself from Among Us, while using the evolution of the genre that Among Us brought, and now Epic brought the next evolution on that formula.

  3. Oh, what the fuck ever. Among us is swimming in cash, meanwhile they're not the first type of that game and it's not like they did something completely new and copyrighted it. Meanwhile it's a limited time event, why would they put in the extra effort to make a completely new game for something that's inherently not a new game. Look at War Thunder and it's April Fools days, they'll make some Star Wars AT-ATs and have it play in the same game modes because it's not worth doing a new complicated game mode. At most it's a trial for a new mode they were already planning.

I can guarantee that if Good Guy Valve did this people would be A-Okay with it, and praising Valve for being consumer friendly in between the gargling of Gabe's chub.

  4. umm, wasn't fortnite originally was a zombie shooter while you build a stronghold (hence the term FORT NITE). They copied pubg multiplayer and blew up.

so yeah, fortnite is a clone

  5. I think Fortnite having an among us like mode as long as it's limited time only is fine, it offers a cool new perspective that even a non-fortnite player like myself finds interesting, however they can't outright copy map layouts from their inspiration/source material. be a little more creative and unique, and maybe add a nod to Among Us in the process, there would be nothing wrong with that. The way it is now though is questionable

  6. First they steal the Battle royal concept, now this…. I take everything thing they give for free if I purchase anything it's via GOG or if not available via Steam. F*** Epic.

  7. Sorry YongYea but this is literally a nothingburger with you looking for a controversy. Epic copied other peoples ideas for ages, Doom/Quake > Unreal, Kill Switch > Gears of War, PUBG > Fortnight. But frankly every one else does it too. When was the last original Blizzard game even at its heyday? The first Diablo? Should they have collaborated with Westwood when making Warcraft, or Everquest devs when making WoW?
But my main annoyance with those devs complaining is that in Among Us they did not even came up with the idea. Board games did this game play for decades before, and there are video games that did it years before too. Among Us just popularized it, and Epic at worst is just exploiting the new popularity. Do I like what epic is doing? Not really, but it is hardly this great offence everyone makes it out to be.

  8. Epic: Imposter 🙄💦

    Among Us Devs: Dead Body

    Gamers: Calls Emergency Meeting

    Epic: Immediately jumps into defense
"Alright, where was the body? It obviously was not us!"

Everyone else around the table: automatically staring in silence at Epic

    Youtubers: "TOTALLY NOT SUS!"

    Epic:
    👨‍💻👨‍💻👨‍💻👨‍💻👨‍💻👨‍💻👨‍💻👨‍💻👨‍💻👨‍💻👨‍💻👨‍💻👨‍💻👨‍💻👨‍💻

    EPIC WAS EJECTED

    GAMERS AND YOUTUBERS WON!!!
