What is BATIM?

Inspired by the BioShock game series, the game is set in the fictional Joey Drew Studios. The player controls Henry Stein, a retired animator who receives a letter inviting him back to his old workplace. Stein discovers a series of strange paranormal activities caused by the titular Ink Machine. In the game, players navigate through a first person perspective and need to complete certain tasks to proceed, such as combat, collecting objects or solving puzzles. Players can also find audio logs recorded by the studio’s employees in order to understand the game’s history.

Bendy and the Ink Machine was well-received upon its initial release. Praise centered on its vintage aesthetic and story, although its puzzles and combat mechanics were less popular. In the months following its release, the game quickly gained a large following from exposure on platforms like YouTube and Twitch, and eventually was approved through Steam Greenlight in mid-2017. Merchandise, as well as a mobile spin-off, was later introduced to further promote the game. Mike Mood, the game’s programmer and co-creator, described the game as an “accidental success”. Bendy and the Dark Revival, the next game in the series, is scheduled for released in 2022.

Who is Bendy?

Bendy the Devil is a cartoon character created by Henry Stein as Joey Drew Studios’ mascot in the very late 1920s. He is as well the titular character of the Bendy franchise, being its namesake. The studio’s flagship character, Bendy starred in a series of cartoons and comic strips thirty years prior to the events of the first game, often alongside the studio’s other characters such as Boris the Wolf and Alice Angel. Bendy was also hired by Briar Label as a spokestoon for their Bacon Soup.

Creation

Bendy was originally created by Henry Stein by Joey’s request prior to the next year opening of Joey Drew Studios, but the record book of Joey Drew Studios states that Joey Drew was the person who created him. It is unknown who among the 2 is the actual creator.

Henry first drew a cartoon character based off of Abby Lambert’s drawing that Joey disproves. It looks like a smiling young boy wearing overalls with the addition of devil horns and a tail just like the original drawing, only in a cartoon form and minus the nose. Joey wants a full new approach for the character, so Henry redrew the character to have devil-based traits while using the demon goat creature drawing as a reference, drawn with a bean-shaped body and wears a pair of shorts, boots, and a shirt. After the second attempt by Joey’s demand, Henry removed the clothes except for the boots while adding the gloves, but the head was still too goat-like and has a small beard. Therefore, the head was drawn to have more cartoon shapes and less life-looking, while making the character look younger, completed with a white face for the black circular horned head, classic pie-cut eyes, and a big toothy grin. For the finishing touch, the character was added with a bowtie.

Personality

Bendy is a borderline troublemaker, but rather impatient and easily startled or timid, yet justifiably cheerful, fun-loving, and mischievous as his devilish nature would imply. Bendy often refuses to pay for anything he buys, as he tries to take his burger without paying Charley in “Tasty Trio Troubles” and didn’t pay Gaskette for his ride according to the latter’s bio image.

What is FNF?

Friday Night Funkin’ is a rhythm game in which the player controls a character called Boyfriend, who must defeat a series of opponents in order to continue dating his significant other, Girlfriend. The player must pass multiple levels, referred to as “weeks”, each containing three songs. Each week, the player faces a different opponent, though some deviate in structure from this via the inclusion of multiple opponents. During gameplay, the opponent will sing a pattern of notes (represented as arrows) which the player must then mirror by using the arrow keys or the W, A, S, and D keys. Some songs introduce more complicated patterns, with the player’s pattern sometimes varying from the opponent’s or both singers engaging in a duet.

For each week, the player has the option to select one of three difficulties: Easy, Normal, or Hard. As the difficulty increases, the speed of incoming arrows increases, and the patterns of arrows become more complex. The player’s high score for each week on each difficulty is tracked and shown in the top corner of the week selection screen. The game contains two different modes of play: a story campaign in which songs are played linearly and a “free play” mode which allows for free selection of any of the game’s music tracks.
