At Home Entertainment Preferences: Does Gen Z Prefer Video Games?



What are the at-home entertainment preferences of the different generations? The consulting firm Deloitte recently came out with their digital media surveys trend and found that Generation Z differs in their favorite at home entertainment activity compared to Millennials, Xers, and Boomers.   1. Interesting topic! I also completed the survey in the link (for those who read this comment).

    There are two things I am curious about learning from the survey. The first is how the cusper crowd may differ from the later Gen Zs. The reason I say that is most Gen Z are teenagers (who may be more inclined to use social media with friends) whereas the cuspy/older members are working adults (and may start to abandon it). I also know a lot of people in my friend group (1994-2000ish) for example who are starting to get fed up social media/using it a lot less, especially since a lot of us remember life before social media blew up in the 2010s and it's starting to feel overwhelming for us. I hope you can show some of the responses by birth year so there is more nuance in where differences could lie rather than whole generations 🙂

    That brings me to my second question: I wonder how many people think they will use social media less in the future. For example I noticed a lot of younger people don't use Facebook as much but use other platforms. That could be a cool survey one day!

  2. I was just watching a video on Mortal Kombat and Demon Slayer. I see overlapping of generations. In North America, Mortal Kombat and Demon Slayer were both fueled by males, 69 percent and 66 percent, respectively, as well as ethnically diverse audiences. Demon Slayer also had the advantage of playing to families.

    "The notion that younger males in the traditionally coveted 18 to 24 age demographic have over time migrated away from the big screen and toward the small screen has been shattered this weekend as fans of video games migrated from the small screen to watch Mortal Kombat at the multiplex on the big screen said Comscore. Also noted that overall revenue reached its highest level since the COVID-19 crisis commenced more than a year ago.

  3. Since TV and entertainment play such a pivotal role in development, would showing a kid only programming from one era more than another influence how that person would develop? (Zillennial, and usually I watch movies.)
