  1. I think Dual weilder is a better grab on Astarion at level 4, if you go theif that is. Comboing dual raipers with the brood mother’s revenge does so very good damage and sometimes straight up kill multiple enemies in on turn provide they are close enough. Doing this also still let you get up to 17 Ac since dual wielding provides you and additional ac for hold two weapons. I think in the full game this is gonna be the way to go for Astarion, because while you losing out on the 18 dex at 4, he will get another chance to increase his stats at later in the game, and 17 seems to be sufficient to complete early access on it own at the moment

  2. He's my absolute favorite companion with his skillset and classic vampire personality! I didn't realize how much I missed Lestat/Armand/Bram Stocker's Dracula 92 vampires of my childhood, and how rare they became among boy band vampires and brooding vampires of today… Don't fix what's not broken! Usually I prefer 'good' characters, but I would love to have Astarion as my companion in full game even for a goody two shoes playthrough just to have more interesting dynamics in my party.

  3. Astarion is a very effective companion due to having basically perfect attributes for an NPC rogue. High Dexterity makes him very effective at dealing and avoiding damage, and his decent Constitution and Wisdom scores give him a decent bonus at 90% of all saving throws. All his other stats are low, which is perfect because he doesn't need them – not even if you build him as an Arcane Trickster.

"But hey, random person on the internet", you think. "His intelligence is only 8! Doesn't that make him a terrible Arcane Trickster?" Well, my friend, the answer is a resounding "No", and not because of some Headband of Intellect. This is because in 5th Edition D&D, Intelligence only determines the saving throw difficulty of an Arcane Trickster's spells and their accuracy with cantrips. Sneak Attack doesn't apply to cantrips, only to finesse and ranged weapons, so an Arcane Trickster isn't going to use them.

"But what about spell saving throws?" you ask. Well, as it turns out, the best spells for an Arcane Trickster don't require saving throws at all! Find Familiar, Invisibility, Mirror Image, Misty Step, Fly, and Greater Invisibility are the bread and butter spells of an Arcane Trickster and none of them require saving throws. Remember, Arcane Tricksters only get access to 4th level spells, and that's only at level 19 – for most of your career you'll be relying on 1st and 2nd level spells, then perhaps 3rd at high levels of play. You're not bludgeoning enemies to deal with Fireballs like Gale the Wizard; you're supplementing your existing Roguishness by going invisible, teleporting, or making yourself harder to hit.

As for Thief Astarion, we'll have to see how the BG3 team adapts some of the weirder, less useful features of the Thief into their game. Their version of Fast Hands is already a huge improvement, so I'm looking forward to seeing what the higher-level features look like.

  4. Seems like every game is early access as of late. I was always was under the impression, developers didn't need non developers to find and work out bugs, pre and post. It was that way for 40 years. I think it's a gimmick, that's lazy and shiftless on the developers.

  5. i play him as an arcane trickster, just fits his personality to me. sure he is a great thief, but i like rogues that are more than a pickpocket, trap disarm, lock picker, adding magic to him … i love it

  6. oh yea & disguise person (as a Drow) bypases most of the red tape when talking to Goblins without having to use the Brain worm. Good on a low intelligence Arcane Trickster because the scrolls of the spell are glitched.

  7. Lae'zel is probably your best use for the magic missile amulet. Being able to action surge 2 magic missiles on turn 1 (3 with potion of speed) is one of the highest damaging openers possible. Also since magic missile is the only spell you really want to cast you don't need the intellect headband and can save it for a main character.

  8. @5:40 you say that you can't attack with the mainhand without using a bonus action but there is actually a button to toggle that. It is right below the button to toggle weapon set between ranged and melee.

  9. This is my take on Baldurs Gate 3, take it or leave it but its a fact!
your gonna get a lot of people saying it is the best…..but im a game developer and ive been playing rpgs and d&d since the early 80's. bg3 is no dos2 for the people that are saying that lied! they just dont care for turn based. with that said, the game is ok at best, i think temple of elemental evil had a better battle system. i think the reason i dont like the game is because it is a linear mess! it is so linear its not even funny, it reminds me of final fantasy with all the cgi interuptions. is it baldurs gate no because its not rtwp nor the same d&d rule set. is it d&d YES! it is d&d and it is very far from dos2!
