In this Best Gaming Monitor 2021 Buying Guide, we review the critical things you need to understand to find the best gaming monitor for pc gaming, PS5, or Xbox Series X. We explain the important specs of resolution, refresh rate, response time, panel type (VA vs IPS vs TN), and much more. In 2021, there are five key specs for buying the best gaming monitor. Most gamers will want a refresh rate of at least 144Hz, which roughly equates to 144 FPS. Refresh rates above this are nice, but there is diminishing returns to what our eyes can experience and refresh rates above 165 Hz are really for very high end competitive shooters where that extra frame may make a slight difference in a competitive environment. The best gaming monitor will also have a response time 3ms or less (with some exceptions). We review the difference between grey to grey (GTG) and moving picture response time (MPRT) in response times and what you need to be aware of.
The current gaming monitor market is crowded with good offerings, but to find the best gaming monitor 2021 you need to look past the marketing. 1080p gaming monitors remain very popular for both budget and high end competitive shooter audiences (who want maximum refresh rates), but the fastest growing market is 1440p gaming monitors. Some of the best monitors you can buy for gaming are 1440p, and in fact we review what I feel is the best gaming monitor 2021 for any resolution. If you want to game in 4k, there are a couple of picks however this end of the market has not yet matured the way the 1440p and 1080p monitor market has. There are currently only two models I would term best 4k gaming monitor.
We recommend the best budget 1080p gaming monitor, the best 1080p gaming monitor, the best 1440p gaming monitor, best 1440p widescreen gaming monitor, and the best 4k gaming monitor. We teach you how to understand the key properties of a monitor to find the best one in 2021.

What resolution are you currently gaming at? What are you planning to upgrade to?
How about for ultrawide? Is Samsung G9 good?
I went from a 25" 144hz 1080p monitor to a 27" 144hz 1080p and at first I was actually disappointed. Im in love with the curve, but in big games like Battlefield I think a 27" would have been better with 1440p. Everything is not really as sharp as I was on my 25", so next time I will for sure look for a 27" Curved 1440p!
I can tell that you put tons of work into this video. I liked it
Waiting for that new asus 32 inch 4k 144hz monitor!
You have no idea how bad I want to get something else while I wait…
so the g9 just isnt a thing for you?
the asus rog is on sale for under 1000 right now
Noice seeing G7 on the list, got mine last week
Thank you so much! 🙂
Excellent video! 😀
Can anyone recommend a Fast IPS 27" monitor, 1440p at 120-144Hz, with very low response time, good HDR and 1800R curved?
Great video. I'm on the look for a monitor for my pc and ps5. Not sure whether to go 1080p or 1440p but I want 240hz and I'm stuck between the Alienware AW2721D or the Alienware AW2521HFA?
3070 graphics card and ps5. I would rather get 1 monitor than have a 2 monitor setup. What do you think? Please give me some feedback
Finally! All the infos in one video. I subscribed
Nice video, but you only presented curved monitors on 1440p resolution :feelsbadman:
Great video thanks i really like how you actually put the price in the description so i dont have to click on each link to find it
I got a 1440, 144hz, 1ms response rate, 27” in., curved monitor for only 278
I have been without a graphics card (and therefore PC) since I sold my 2070 in September to get a 30 series. Still havent been able to get one. Needless to say this has sucked
I see those 30 series in the backround, how did you manage to get them?
Hey I need a monitor for buisness purposes what do you recommend for a 49” or 38” I’ve already tried the g9 odyssey didn’t like it wasn’t so clear
Love the list but what about a 4k 60hz hdr 10 monitor? I have a high refresh rate monitor but want one to focus more on image quality in games
Have to mention the LG27GL830-A at ~$400
IPS,IPS.IPS.IPS.IPS.IPS . If anybody ever tells you to buy anything but IPS, punch them in the face. TRUST ME, or you will regret it. Anything but IPS, looks like excrements and nonworth it unless you are a fucking pro player or something. For normal people it wont make a difference.
Very detailed explanations, love it
Ur my new favorite person literally
U got a sub and like
Dude where is the current best 1440P 170hz Monitor? You should have mentioned the Gigabyte M27Q. Hardware Unboxed already said its the best.
I'm glad that Youtube recommended this video to me. I have clicked Like and Subscribe. I have watched tons of videos on monitor reviews and this one is the BEST. It is the most comprehensive and covers almost every important aspect of monitor.
I have a question and I would really appreciate it if, Jason, you could help me to answer it.
Almost all monitor and TV reviews on Youtube are playing action games but I don't play action games. I play strategy and RPG games with isometric views. The issue that irritates me a lot is that when my character is MOVING around in an RPG game like Diablo or strategy game, the surrounding objects (environment and NPCs) are BLUR. Is this caused by low refresh rate, low FPS, high response time, or other reason?
To avoid the blurry of the surroundings when moving, should I buy Samsung Oddysey 32" or LG OLED TV 48"?
Im on the PG279Q and as much I love it for work. But hate it for gaming with that typical No Contrast IPS!
Love VA panels, but hate that VA smear and never thought it to get fixed – hence the tech, but damn Samsung did the unthinkable with the G7 Odyssey!
But as a want a 32 inch and then so, 1440P low PPI wont cut it.
Call me superstooked since I heard Samsung Will come out with a G75 odyssey 4K – 1000 nits HDR – YAHOO CALL ME IN – that is the only one im waiting for 😁💪🏽
This video is amazing thank you so much
That's a great setup dude! Thank you for the tip! 😍😍😍
You should really not promote HDR on any of these monitors. HDR 400 is literally a joke. tbh HDR on Windows is trash and should not affect your buying decision at all if it's for pc. HDR 600 is still not good on PC, but at least not as bad (still horrible). If anything the only good thing about HDR 600 and is better nits on the monitor (better overall brightness). HDR 400 is a joke. HDR10 is non exictent unless you pay 1 million dollars.
Consoles needs HDR10 for HDR to work, but they also need HDMI 2.1 for high fps gaming.
And before anyone says anything. I've got 1 high end Samsung 32" HDR 400 144hz VA panel and 1 Alienware HDR 600 27" 244hz ips monitor. So I know what I'm talking about 🙂
Hey please can someone help me out I've been gaming on a 55" 4k Samsung TV @60hz I plan on building a pc what should I upgrade to? A monitor? Or a newer TV as mines the Samsung ks9000 curved from 2016. It's a beautiful TV but I would like something with higher hz I'm currently playing on ps5 but once I get my cpu will build my pc. My pc will use rx 6800 xt se and a ryzen 9 5900x
What would you suggest as a budget ultra-wide 32 inch for a 2080 super graphics & 16 gigs of ram?
4K 144hz here.
i Thinking between Gigabyte G27FC/ M27F / Benq Ex2710 whic is better choice?
LG cx48, it's the bomb .
Great video! Keep up the good work, sir!
REALLY REALLY good Video! Thx for all the explaining and showing! My language is German but men you just explained it so simpel and understandable! Good Video and thank you allot!
VA you say.. eat that dark level smearing then 🙂
the aoc24gt just upped its price by 70 dollars
Just got the Lg950, very happy with it.
why u tryna flex?
ill be picking up the samsung g7 and g5 love them
This is a video about the best gaming monitors of 2021…but all of the monitors in your video are from 2020 or earlier 🤡 waste of time, and lack of any real info. Cool vid
Between these two monitor which one is better for fps gaming.
1. AOC C27G2 165Hz 1080p
2. AOC CQ27G2 144Hz 1440p
Thanks in advance.
Where would you put the alienware 2721D 27 in 240hz monitor?
Does tuf vg24vq monitor can support 120hz on xbox series x and what about zowie xl2411k????
So does the 1080p monitors that you recommended support 120hz with the 1.4 hdmi? I'm just confused because some people say that playstation locks 120 fps with hdmi 2.0 and up. Thanks in advance.
What a great video! Thank you. I have been waffling between the 27GN950 (27GP950 in 2021) and the Samsung G7 for my PS5.
3440×1440 is the best res in my opinion
Have you looked into the Asus VG289Q 28inch? It's a 4k please let me know whT you think
