It's important to remember anything created using Bethesda's IP is wholly owned by Bethesda (Well, now Microsoft) under all circumstances unless stated otherwise (Like in the CC contracts).
They can't have stolen their own property. The fan token uses iconography owned by Bethesda. It is Bethesda's property. If you don't like it, too bad, create your own IP or buy the license. I'm legit sick of this "OH MY GOD WHY WON'T PEOPLE JUST LET ME USE THEIR CREATIVE LABOR WITH NO REPRECUSSIONS?!?!" arguments.
This is also why Bethesda owns all mods created using their tools, unless exceptions are specified. They did the expensive and labor-intensive groundwork of creating an engine, tools, logic and assets. A user repurposing those assets has no legal right of ownership so long as any part of the creation uses those elements unless specified by licensing agreement.

Okay, I'm not the kind of guy to defend multi billion dollar corporations…
but WHAT exactly is that fan so angry about? That's literally Bethesda's IP.
Is it morally gray for them to take someone else's art and use it without asking? Yeah.
Is it illegal? No.
With that being said they should've at least gave him the credit for it.
It is there ip, the own it, they can make what they want.

If I made a template for a 3D model of coin with Mickey Mouse on it, then Disney took it, made it then sold them . I'd have no grounds for a lawsuit.
Same as this guy. Sorry but if you don't own the IP or the Copyright/Trademark for it you'd have no grounds to sue the owner of said I.P ect .

Oh and the meme is a reverse. Its the moomins who end up captured by a zoo and told its because they are hippos. They protest, even pointing out that they can speak and thus cannot be hippos. But zoo workers refuse to listen.
Hemules are hemules but look similar. And so mistaking one for a moomin or hippo certainly wouldnt be beyond the credible.
And as such.. its a reverse thing on some lines and one moomin characters might get involved in being quite hawkish with suings. Bethesda will be flogged by moomin characters for those coins.
