The swamp isnt always attached or adjacent to the black forest. I have swamps that border the plains. We build a fort right on the border of the plains and swamp. And the mobs from the 2 biomes fight each other which gives us free materials.
The healing potions aren't "meh" – You just suck at this game TBH
Buying the ymir flesh unlocks two new weapon recipes
"is there a trick to finding swamps?" – yes play the game. If you hadn't cheated to get to a merchant and instead sailed around looking for one, you would have found many swamps by now.
The sword feels nice to use but definitely hold on to the mace, it'll be very useful later on.

Valheim seems to be a kiting-biased combat system. Healing potions should be HOT.
If you open your map and hover your mouse over a section of revealed map it will tell you what biome it is in the top right. That way if you reveal a tiny piece by accident you can check before running all the way back over.

been playing this since it came to EA but how do you place a ping on the map like you have been doing? Or if anyone has a quick answer really…

Every time I've used a healing potion it's because I've gotten away and now poison is going to kill me.
When you hit up the crypts for iron, just bring your antler pick axe. It isn't much worse at collecting and you can repair it "in the field" with just a roofed crafting table instead of needing a forge.

What I don't understand is why you have four slots with arrows. And are these wood arrows? Why? I have so many flintstone arrows that I just use them. And I have never crafted them. Lately I'm not even carrying them, just a single stack of flame arrows.
When you find a swamp, I recommend you bring a hoe, to level out some of the water. Staying on land makes it a lot less dangerous.

Just sail along the shorelines looking for dead trees. That's how I usually find swamps.
It is recommended that you get 4ymir flesh to make the iron war hammer (2handed mace) for the third boss without it the adds he summons will be to much. Now is it doable without it yes but it will be a more enjoyable fight with it.
normaly you have to sail to swamps but not with the raft it wount hold up so the second ship with the nails
I think that fastest way to discover new swamp would be on a boat. Thistles are in swamp too and way easier to spot. Also you will need 19 Ymir flesh to fully upgrade all items which use them.
Set healing potions to your hot bar or you can access you inventory while you are running
You can easily find a swamp by sailing around the coastlights of the islands.

Why do you carry so many arrows?
What is the point of using anything else than fire arrows?
If you use this seed and head north until you reach the ocean and then follow the coast to the north-west there is a massive swamp there: klW6PHmPNj
Sail around and look for dead trees
On land and the mist lands has no enemies at this time i have 150 hrs in it already easily one oh my favorite games in a minute
Kage.. good rule of thumb while entering to clear a building : always stick to a side.
Eg: Always turn right & follow the right wall until it leads you back to the entrance chamber of the crypt.
Then work the center chamber and follow the right walls. Repeat in the 3rd chamber. That way you have less backtracking.

Imagine dropping arrows and keeping greydwarf eyes when you run out of inventory space…
I'd buy the flesh, anyways it might unlock more crafting, maybe important because you can only get it from trader.
At this point i wouldn't worry about cores, once you start spending time in the swamp, you will run into scorchling camps and they drop cores and coal when you kill them.

Healing potions are amazing when you are dying from poison damage.
you need 4 of the flesh from the trader to craft the OP sledge hammer, you have to buy one and drop it to buy another. You cant have more than one in your inventory when buying them.
