  1. What I’m gonna say isn’t as someone who wants more or is unsatisfied and instead from someone who actually would love for him to relax after some 30 years of work, but I KINDA doubt him. Why? Well, Sakurai mentioned time and time again him not continuing something because of personal reasons yet he always ends up getting dragged back in and pushing himself once more. His dedication to his work is probably going to bite him and again and he’ll keep working. Now I don’t want that to happen, but knowing Sakurai he’ll push himself back down that hole.

  2. What a high note to end on. I remember getting smash 64 for my birthday the week it came out. Been playing the series my whole life and I feel so spoiled in ultimate for character choice, balance, and playability. I have nothing but gratitude for all this man has done and yes, even all the fire emblem characters 🙂

  3. Now you SERIOUSLY can never ask him for anything EVER AGAIN…

In all seriousness, have a great retirement, Sakurai. Thank you for doing what seemed like the impossible day in and day out. God bless, and Godspeed…

  4. To be honest it makes sense after all of this he would be exhausted so if he's going to retire he would want to make his last project the biggest and best one he's ever made

  5. I'm going to miss this man, but dang has he earned it. There were several points where I was concerned about his health.

That said, people like him tend to get stir crazy after retirement and don't entirely settle down.

  6. Judging by the title and the thumbnail WHY is this such a bad thing? He deserves it! He's pretty old and he works incredibly hard. Why is it a bad thing? Please, stop making it seem like it's a bad thing.

  7. It was about time, he needs a rest after all of these years… It’s a bit sad knowing he’s not going to work in videogames anymore, but after all he did for us, all of those hours of work just to make all the fighters (DLC or Not) in order to make them as similar as the source material, the injustified hatred for the toxic side of the Smash community just because he didn’t added a character they wanted, and many other reasons…
He really deserves it, even if it won’t be the same without him.

    Thank you for everything Sakurai.
