instead of building second layer of walls round your portal you should build a low highroof
If you mark that copper spot again you know where you left a workbench as well. Could come in handy one day. And yes, I would certainly build a tiny base, a cooking station and a bed so it'll be a good place to respawn although with the portal it wouldn't matter much, except for a quick way to sleep away the night.
Can you upgrade to stone or do you need to destroy wood or just build in stone to start?
fox I recommend saving the raspberries and gather as much thistles and dandelion as you can fine for mead later.
What do you need and how do you make the new boat?
Not sure if you know but you need three tree seeds to summon the tree elder
