My favorite part of Silent Hill is how they throw all the mystique and mystery out the window within the first thirty minutes in favor of me being bored and thinking I'm playing as a crazy person. This feels like all the worst parts of Downpour and Homecoming. I get the feeling alot of modern "Horror" Games misunderstand what Silent Hill was.
This is the first time I've seen an opening of a game that threw me further away from the plot instead of deeper into it. I have a vague understanding of her powers, but I honestly don't know how old she's supposed to be. I don't understand why someone magically called her right after her magical Medium episode. I don't understand why someone else working there wouldn't make sure this clearly emotionally unstable young woman wasn't alone during this. I don't get why they need the split screen during The Medium sections.
There's a chance this will be explained and expanded on later, but I literally stopped caring when they switch scenes over to her on a motorcycle and I realized this is likely going to be a boring game. Someone in the comments said it feels like a Dark Picture installment, and man are they right. The choices you make at least pretend like they matter in those games at least.
Also I get the feeling they added the voice over work after the game was finished, because they realized they had a turd on their hands. Most of the game was a walking simulator so they needed to break up the Medium sections and your character aimlessly walking around with her talking to herself about everything.
Urgh, you're supposed to SAY what's triggering, so that people who suffer from it can be prepared and not taken by surprise, ya dinguses. If it's a spoiler, put it in a separate menu and mention it or something. Also that wording… is giving me some real "sorry you get offended" vibe.
WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK!? That "Trigger Warning" is about as helpful and serious as "Allergen Warning: Our foods are prepared by master chefs while paying attention the highest standards of sanitation. Certain proteins, known as "allergens", may cause a disproportionate immune response and these reactions can be life threatening. This food has the possibility to contain allergens." Well fuck you very much.
The Medium was developed by a diverse team of "various" political views and ideologies? Considering the state of Polish politics that actually sounds terrible. "We've got people with all sorts of ideologies, from Law and Justice to Confederation Liberty and Independence!"
In fact, I'm going to take a possibly controversial stance and say that none of the political views and ideologies that are currently popular in Poland are great. The Left alliance seems alright, but beyond that, it seems really not great.
The Beksiński-like landscapes in the Spirit World feel more like plagiarism than homage in how closely they resemble the paintings, but those have been the only thing to catch my eye in the first hour of this. The character and the story so far have been very forgettable genre stuff, so I hope it gets more interesting as it progresses.
The production value? Great but it also runs like crap and the split screen gimmick is genuinely pointless save for its application in the very last cutscene.
There's also heavy trigger warnings for CSA/sexual assault, really tasteless handling of mental illness, and… the holocaust??? The ending is really gross tbh. The whole game is really tactless with the subjects it handles but that's to be expected from Bloober Team.
It's a shame that something that could've been rad (the artist they borrowed from is underrated when it comes to art direction in media) and I hate that nasty writing is ignored when gamedevs promise they're making the next PT/Silent Hill. Gamers need standards.
Akira Yamaoka, and Mary Elizabeth McGlynn? Sounds like wannabe Silent Hill alright! I think they did the whole Beksiński art very well. I'm not saying it's "Beksiński inspired" mind you, because it's literally directly emulating his style. It's not using it as a starting point and putting their own spin on it, they are taking it as is. Not that it's a bad idea, I always thought he was the more approachable Giger, where beige reigned instead of grey and not EVERYTHING was shaped like genitals. Anyways, looking forward to this. I was gonna play it myself, but since it looks linear as hell and very David Cage like, I might as well just watch a Bumble-through.
Holy hell this ones got a damn lotta comments dont it? judging by a few of these comments i wager theres a large stretch of nothing where Mr Greatfriend makes a joke about THE ALGORYTHM
speaking of, feels like a lot more adds lately. like, every 6 minutes.
This might just be me and my shitty laptop, with it's stupid dark screen, but I would really appreciate if you turned the gamma up a bit more. I can hardly see dark areas, still.
I'm honestly excited for this one. Getting pretty strong "Silent Hill but Slavic" vibes and I love those two things, so I'm easy to please. The atmospheres are beautiful so far. Game play is ??? and I've seen the other warnings about the writing, but the last thing I watched on this channel was Fox Hunt so it sure feels like a major increase in quality…
Those headache-style strobe & noise transitions at 28:49, 45:55 and 49:43? Very much not a fan. And the split screen gimmick seems a bit atmosphere-deflating, if anything.
Me: I dunno sgf, I've heard this game is pretty bad…. sgf: I'm hoping this game will be better than Crying is Not Enough and Remothered Me: Okay maybe not THAT bad
in Voidburger's stream of this people compared this girl to Madison from Heavy Rain and also her narration being like Samus in Other M and now that's all I can think of
The whole "camera telling me to go that way, well I'm going this way" bit is something I do constantly. Personally speaking, it's part wanting to explore the level and part consequence of playing games that story you out of parts of the level. Meaning that if you take the "correct" path then a bit of story happens and the other path is then locked off
Have you considered playing Tell Me Why?
Went straight for Nightcry. Just be honest with yourself SGF
"polish silent hill" – alright!
"polish silent hill with ghost energy blasts" – uh…
cant wait to see more

Hey now, Remothered wasn't a good game, but don't lump it in with the likes of Nightcry and Crying Is Not Enough! 🙁

Not a good start.
This game is like a "Dream." Winks at the algorithm

You just exposed a piece of photo paper to a light??? With no film???… THAT'S NOT HOW PHOTO PAPER WORKS!!!

SGF: tie critic
Have this yummy SEO juice
This game has some great writing and voice acting. Not a bad ⌚

Nice background noise, just don't care about this game but care about sgf

That said? Looking forward to SGF playing it.
Oh boy I hope the rest of this isn't about how she lost her dad to brain cancer!!!!!!
So, Blackwell. Except super cereal and Polish?
40:44 Some way, somehow, it always comes back to Illbleed. ("Government-owned vacation resort" = Camp David = no, the other one)
Had I not seen this talked about on Twitter earlier, I would have seriously thought this was the next Dark Pictures installment
You can Not pet the cat in Medium.

Hm gives me TV-series vibes
Look on the bright side, there's no curators here.
Is there something wrong about the jog animation? It looks fine to me.
This might just be me and my shitty laptop, with it's stupid dark screen, but I would really appreciate if you turned the gamma up a bit more. I can hardly see dark areas, still.
i saw bob say that this game was deeply offensive and i am all here to see how badly it fumbles whatever it is trying to do
Dull indeed.
Not scary or more than half interesting but I don't hate it so far which I expected myself to.
Where IS the notebook
I love her little “pretending to rush across the crosswalk” jog
I cant wait to see more 🙂
Ah, this seems to be a low-key atmospheric game and then you got a spirit blast

It's like Silent Hill but the music is actually giving me more Death Stranding vibes.
Akira Yamaoka did the music? Now I'm interested.

I need to see the bumbling through Remothered's sequel as well as the long awaited story explanation for the first game.
The absolute disgust in your voice at the colour choice of the tie made me loose it.
Me: I dunno sgf, I've heard this game is pretty bad….
sgf: I'm hoping this game will be better than Crying is Not Enough and Remothered

The giant subtitles are a little distracting. Is there a smaller setting, like a medium size, maybe?

What, are comments good for SGF in regards to the algorithm? If so….
"Can't people read, the sign says 'Closed'…"
As a graveyard retail worker, my heart reaches out
This looks interesting
