Not too shabby. Interesting imagery and mechanics (benefit of having a different culture to raid). Wonder if there is going to be a political subtext of the old Soviet system.
Not to jump the gun just yet but this game is giving me major Beyond: Two Souls vibes if that " game" leaned more into its horror tone between the drap environments, strange supernatural abilities and main character talking between worlds tho I'm already seeing alot this game is lifting from.
Really disappointed with this game. It's very boring to watch, I can only imagine what it's like to actually be playing it. It doesn't do anything poorly, but it also doesn't do much that's actually interesting. It isn't "so bad it's good" funny as something like Night Cry or CINE, it's just a milquetoast take on the genre, which is probably a far worse sin than shooting too high and failing spectacularly like those other games. The spirit world stuff is skin deep, and no combat/inventory management means there's practically nothing to keep you engaged as you run around and try to figure out what to do. The main character is also very bland – ghostly powers aside – and doesn't seem to have anything going for her besides her recently deceased loved one. It's visually impressive, but those things tend to age poorly with time.
Really hoping for a full Penumbra playthrough after this one; as I remember it from a prior LP, that is a very, very intriguing game, and is a far more interesting horror game than this ever looks like it will be.
This looks awful. Like someone played every major Horror Game that was released in the past three years and had the wrong takeaway from it.
She's learning things she should already know at the same time we the audience are. The way she acts is half the time she's fully aware of how her powers work, and the other half of the time is that she just realized them today. Her age is the thing that makes this very hard to get a grasp of because she's supposed to be clearly older than fourteen.
Also, Mam. You yourself said there was a very documented MASSACRE in the area. You can't sit here and act confused as to why things are all over the place and why there's a strong emotion here.
I'm not crazy for thinking most places have an introduction to most of it's mechanics and gameplay loops. Wouldn't it have made more sense that when you were looking for your dead adoptive father's tie that you'd want to introduce these things there? Why is the building falling apart to the point that anything stronger than a stiff breeze could tear it apart while also having mechanisms that would require years of maintenance still working?
By the time the thing happens about 55 mins in. I realized not only do not know why we're at this place, but what the hell is going on? This story is a mess, this writing is a mess, and everything in-between is a hot mess. This game should be a textbook example of why you don't skimp on paying a writer to write the story first and focus on a game around that.
I don't have much to say about this so far… So I'll mention something else that caught my attention recently! Henchman Story was recently funded and looks like a pretty interesting Visual Novel about working under a supervillain with your fellow minions. Tons of comedic writing and very nice visuals, looking forward to it's release.
The Malleus Malieficarium is a real book, crazy religious zealots used it as a guide to hunting witches, despite it not being endorsed by any religious body.
The other world looks so, so, so much nicer when in fullscreen. I hope that continues. I can appreciate trying to do something new with the split screen thing- but- it'd proabably have worked better if it was just a toggle.
Right from the bat we have a kid magazine in a style I do vaguely remember reading. The legend in it is one of more well known polish ones: ,Smok wawelski’ also known as ‘Wawel dragon’. Summary of it from wikipedia: ‘’The most popular, fairytale version of the Wawel Dragon tale takes place in Kraków during the reign of King Krakus, the city's legendary founder. Each day the evil dragon would beat a path of destruction across the countryside, killing the civilians, pillaging their homes, and devouring their livestock. In many versions of the story, the dragon especially enjoyed eating young maidens. Great warriors from near and far fought for the prize and failed. A cobbler's apprentice (named Skuba) accepted the challenge. He stuffed a lamb with sulphur and set it outside the dragon's cave. The dragon ate it and became so thirsty, it turned to the Vistula River and drank until it burst. The cobbler married the King's daughter as promised, and founded the city of Kraków.’’ There is also a cool dragon statue that breathes fire by the real life location of the rumored dragon cave. Also: ‘w’ in polish is always pronounced like ‘v’. That’s why you’ll often have pseudo ‘’eastern european’’ accents in shows etc say stuff like ’vork’ etc.
One thing I am wondering about… are the names Thomas and Jack supposed to uh, diegetic or are those just english versions of names, and aren’t their actual names? Cause english names def weren’t common in that time period.
Richard Tarkowski… I assume this is a reference to polish school of posters, or at least that was my first thought. Tarkowski seems to be mostly russian last name but there were poles with it too. After searching a bit I think the art in this poster reminded me of a poster by Jan Lenica for Wozzeck’.
Oh, now that’s interesting… technically the surname of Ursula Anna should have been Rostkowska not Rostkowski- first one is femmine while the second one masculine. Later down the line they call her ‘Rostkowsky’ which would suggest her surname is russian or was written in cyrylica originally, as that's a standard way to translate. Could be the case she went with a more english friendly way of writing her surname (common thing) ooooor this is just developers making things easier for non-slavic speakers. We’ll see.
It's really nothing like Silent Hill, but moreover it's not even really a horror game (until that bit at the end). It's just… nothing. Aggressively boring. I'm having a really hard time making it through. Like, the ghosts and otherworld are just normal things for Marianne since she was a child, so there's nothing scary about them in context.
It's really interesting how divisive this game is in the comments. People either love it or find it painfully bland. Personally, I find it more compelling than Man of Medan/Little hope because I find the setting much more intriguing.
Are there other horror games like this that are somewhat relaxing to watch when they are not putting jump scares or action? I don't know, there is something serene about it when you explore
I saw things that would break a grown man… things like… having to shimmy along a wall… and… some fungus. The mortal mind was not designed to comprehend some light that charges up your dead arm. There's also some moths.

In Silent Hill: Homecoming the skin door is actually a foreskin you're cutting and furthermore…
I don't care if the game is bad, I like the bumble so far

CD Project Bland
This game seems really boring. The greatest sin. Should have been John Wick fighting demons from hell. Constatine: The Game.

I am so happy SGF is actually playing good games
The Malleus Malieficarium is a real book, crazy religious zealots used it as a guide to hunting witches, despite it not being endorsed by any religious body.
yeah I remember picking up a shoe and hearing the screams of dead people. Kind of annoying when I need to put them on in the mornings
I don't wanna cut the skin door no thank you
Ah! the sunflower has always been celebrated for its excellence
This clearly isn't going to be for everyone, but the no combat horror genre is definitely my kind of thing.
Played through it and really enjoyed it myself.
Ah, it's my favorite show! Internet man plays Beksiński's Life is Strange.
Cut the skin door, hug the shame boy, uh……Stomp the heart of love.

MOTHED TO DEAD!!! Zaćmiony na śmierć 🤔?
The clock thing is honestly real neat, I like it.
The Medium, where ghosts try to wear people's skin and poop mushrooms.
EDIT: "Oh and the moths are evil and deadly.
I hate it when I pick up my razor, but it's actually guilt, shame, regret.
SGF the "I feel so pathetic" in the ledger was part of a bigger quote from Mary's letter in SH2
Folks, I‘m starting to think we got pranked by Thomas.
Big fan of the pastel pink subtitle for "screams of terror"

I keep singing The Box by Roddy Ricch during the cutscene
Why was there a touch-tone phone in this Polish hotel that shut down in the 70s?

I never thought of just running through those moths! That would have saved time. #sgfspeedrunstrats
Really enjoying this game xD
