Just how powerful are the next-gen consoles compared to PC? We started to answer this question by looking at Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, but with the implementation of ray tracing, Call of Duty Black Ops Cold War is another fascinating test case – and the answers are surprising. 1. Although I love DF content, I find some of these analysis videos rather laughable at moments. I mean, it's obvious that Nvidia is pushing devs and reviewers to implement and praise ray tracing, but c'mon – 200% zoom to see "boiling shadows artifact" or a slight "dark halo effect" on random grass and bushes…Really?? While hardware being able to push all these effects at good fps costs $600+

BTW, having RX 6800 and 5900x I can run most of the games with RT enabled at 1080p60. For me, regardless what DF says, the most obvious difference/improvement when you enable RT are reflections, as you don't have to look for them in 10x zoom and stare at the walls, props and pixels (and even then, you have to be aware and actively think about reflections in order to actually notice it). After this, the next most obvious are shadows (still it's quite subtle most of the time) and finally the least obvious is ambient occlusion (for this one you need side-by-side comparisons in order to be able to tell the difference; sometimes standard non-RT AO looks better).

  2. comparisons like this aren't fair in my book because a lot of the settings on PS5 you cant match on PC and the only settings we see on PC settings are not everything there are definitely other settings that we can't even see, those settings are tweaked and reduced to increase performance on console but for PC port developers don't follow the same pattern rather they put higher fidelity and many options are unchangeable

  3. Yeah graphical comparison videos shouldn’t be something you watch on mobile or on anything less than the native resolution of the upload which is 4k, because I’m having a pretty hard time seeing a difference on mobile then I went to my 4k monitor and saw the differences. Obviously not huge differences but you can notice them if you look for them

  4. What truly matters is that you're enjoying the game on your preferred platform I'm going to be playing it on a console I don't care how it Compares on PC cuz I'm not going to spend thousands of dollars making a PC when I can spend $500 on a PS5 when I can get one

  5. Despite the very good price/performance ratio of brand new consoles (PS5/XOX), the console's versions of COD already inferior compared to the PC. Just remember the PS2 and PS3/X360 era, when PC hardware could not surpass the power of that consoles for the first 1-2 years …

  6. So has anyone found Waldo yet? In all seriousness I love these detailed breakdowns from DF, but thankfully I wouldn’t notice, or care for such minor differences in motion. Great video nonetheless 👍

  7. I downloaded the HD texture pack, and it was the biggest waste of space ever, even more useless than Modern Warfare's updates. 54 GB and the visual difference is negligible under inspection, let alone during gameplay. Overall the PC performance is decent but some of the options are far too demanding. Honestly most of these options barely make a difference

  8. Only critics will scan a still Image and detail the differences. In real world use, players are running around looking at reflections and lights that look equally impressive. I think it's safe to say we all know a high end PC will look better, but console players gain entry for a fraction of the cost of what PC players will spend to see a barely noticeable differences.

  9. Most digital foundry videos have the same comments. "I can't see the difference", the difference is so minor", "you can only see the difference if you zoom in"…blah, blah, blah. The only exceptions are videos where they praise Sony exclusives…and suddenly all of these fanboys can easily see the difference and "it's massive", and "Sony exclusives are the best"… and on and on.

It's so obvious most of these comments are motivated by fanboyism. Either that or we have the most imperceptive people on the planet gathered here. But then why are Digital Foundry videos so popular?

  10. Alex, you did a lot of work for this. But my main take away is that I can turn all my PC settings from HIGH to LOW/MEDIUM and it will look exactly the same to my eye as I'm playing the game. Haha, thanks.

  11. Nice video. But in the PC comparison chart you are basically saying that the ps5 performs almost at a 6800 level despite having half as many CUs, SUs and TMUs, while having less ROPs and bandwidth as well. Interesting. I'd love to know the reasons behind this.

  12. I remember in the PS3-era, when all PC-players got where shitty ports witth higher resolutions. but now we have almost all the options we ever wanted. so bitching does work. keep it up, fellow master-raceler! :'D

  13. summary : just play and enjoy the game, most players don't pause between each frame and zooming in to 800% or stay at one location longer enough to notice the differences.
