  1. The death star used kyber crystals (the crystals used to power lightsabers, made in the core of a dying star) for its power source. It technically there's a star involved, but the death star was not directly powered by a star. It's a big lightsaber cannon.

  2. So with the Death Star thing, the first and second Death Stars were not Dyson spheres because of there power resorting from kaiba crystal, we learn this in rouge one. now in the movie the force awakens the newer Death Star like thing (star killer base) is a Dyson sphere as we see, the main source of power is the sun, you can see this explained that they are legitimately sucking up the sun like they’re in Luigi’s mansion, and power it that way.

  3. Closer analogy to a Dyson Sphere in Star Wars would be the Star Forge from Old Republic because while it didn't encapsulate it, it did directly draw power from a star to create power to supply a higher and more efficient yield of starships and other war supplies.

Overall has to be my favourite quote that I’ve ever heard.

  5. The Death Star is not a Dyson Sphere because it collects energy from Kyber Crystals (the crystals that power lightsaber). The Starkiller base does use energy from the sun but does not encapsulate said sun

  6. Ross can I put you in my comic?
I want you to be a villian whose only goal is to kidnap people and lecture them about theoretical asto physics and anything to do with space but if they leave or fall asleep he fucking kills them

  7. The death star absorbs its energy from kyber crystals (the things that power lightsabers). That would automatically disqualify it from any discussion involving dyson spheres. However, I do believe that there's room for debate with Starkiller base. While not encircling a star, it does draw power from one (we actually see it kill off a star at the end of the 7th movie).
