Over two years ago it was being rumored that Nintendo and Microsoft were in talks to bring Xbox Game Pass to the Switch in some way, but nothing was ever announced since then. Now with a lot changing as Microsoft is becoming more aggressive with the service and strengthening the relationship with Nintendo I wanted to revisit the topic with Nate again to talk about the possibility.

  1. Game Pass on the Switch would benefit both parties equally, so why wouldn't Nintendo just roll xCloud into the Nintendo Switch Online subscription and then they can both make money and grow their respective subscriber bases.

Microsoft paying their Game Pass profits to Nintendo per user doesn't seem financially feasible or logical in the long run, but if Nintendo found a way to make their own online service grow, then both Nintendo and Microsoft would get money. Nintendo would benefit from having bigger and better games on their system at a faster pace than they can manage with their best efforts, and Microsoft would grow their userbase like they want.

  2. I'd say the perfect solution is you need to have both switch online and game pass for console/ultimate, or if that's not enough money for Nintendo, then a switch online plus tier, that's like instead of 20$ a year 40$ and then you can use a game pass for console/ultimate subscription. And for stuff that's already on the switch like Ori or Skyrim, let the user decide if they want to play the streamed (potentailly higher quality) version, or the switch port, which you can play offline.

  3. Gamepass is definitely going to switch. All microsoft have to do is push a button and convert all their demanding games to a much weaker platform. Or stream them to a predominately mobile device that can't always connect online.

  4. If Microsoft wanted to collab with nintendo theyd lend them the banjo license and any rare asssets, like how sony lends spiderman to marvel.

They wouldnt put a whole stream service on the switch. That's retarded and would give more shit to nintendo cause people would complain that nintendo online is trash in comparison to what xbox is doing and on their platform. It just makes no sense. I hate dumbass rumors and I hate youtubers always milking rumors for content.

  5. I would love to see gamepass on Playstation, but I think gamepass on Playstation would be more beneficial to Sony currently than Microsoft. If you could get access to all Xbox first party games on the new Playstation than new console sales would gravitate even more towards PS5 because they would have access to all major games excluding Nintendo games.

  6. I think game similarity between Gamepass and Switch is less of an issue with Nintendo tax since if you buy the Switch game now or 3 months from now, you will still pay the same price anyway

  7. xCloud seriously might change my mind on streaming.
Consoles are starting to show its age.
For an example, the only reason why I can't play Demon Souls is simply because I cant get my hands on a PS5.
I don't need an Xbox or even a power PC now to enjoy MS games. They may not be as good as Sony games, but they are still games that are available on my demand. No hardware barriers.

  8. I can imagine if they're planning on putting game pass on the switch, the switch pro will most certainly benefit from that in terms of "port games" although it wouldn't technically be a port. Forza horizon 4 would be baller as heck on the switch pro

  9. I just wish nintendo would extend the good faith and put some of their games on Xbox if that’s the case. Doesn’t have to be their huge titans, but things like older Mario games and xeno blade would be pretty cool

  10. Fun discussion my fucking ass. More like infuriating. Also, I am impressed with Nate's diction; especially when you consider he has some of Phil Spencer's anatomy stuffed in his mouth. He still manages to talk clearly around it. Bravo Nate, bravo.

  11. I can see Microsoft playing the preferential treatment card if it happens. Oh yeah it'll be on Nintendo Switch but………………..if you really want the better experience well you better get an Xbox Series X/Xbox Series S, Windows 10 PC or an Android phone.

  12. Nintendo should get Game Pass on the switch. More games just means more people running out to buy replacement joy-cons when they eventually start to drift.

  13. I'm hoping that a Switch Pro type upgrade will be how Game Pass is utilized. If it's as powerful as people are talking in the rumors, it should hopefully be able to handle Xbox One games. Though they'd either have to stream only on current Switches, or only offer it for the newer one.

  14. If it doesn't happen, I think it would be due to Nintendo not wanting it and wanting to make their own service. Microsoft seems to be turning into a company where they don't really care where you play their games. You can play on PC, an Xbox or, if you are more casual, you can just play on your phone, TV, web browser, etc. I don't really see Nintendo as competition or vice versa. It'd be like saying a muscle/performance car is competing with a family friendly car. Netflix doesn't care where you watch Netflix, I think Microsoft is heading in that same direction. Subscriptions makes them more money than people buying hardware one time.

  15. I don't think that Nintendo would do it. They are not a consumer friendly company. And due to the fact that GamePass price is less than one of their triple A software. Nintendo would not let a subscription service on their hardware knowing that this will stop their physical and digital sales. Also by games being streamed this would mean that games might look really good and maybe it might even have better gameplay. And dude we will never see Master Chief in Smash dum dum.

  16. What if Nintendo joined in for Xbox Game Pass?
Maybe just Nintendo games streaming on the Switch but that could give them an excuse to get a bit of that money.
Maybe make it part of an NSO premium service that also combines with Xbox Game Pass if you have it.
Two different subscriptions sure but I'm sure it would still make money and separate the two platforms enough.

  17. What if Control and Hitman 3 were the "beta test" of the XSX versions of games running on x-cloud to prove the technology? The deal can be: you have our Gamepass on your console and you can get any XSX game on the switch. There's very little development cost to wrap that version through x-cloud.
Oh… And the switch pro? You get to stream those games at XSX rendering resolution
