The Maximum Carnage Build takes advantage of the Shotgun: Carnage, which is the pound for pound king of Shotguns when it comes to damage per shot. What makes Carnage different from most other Shotguns is that it fires double the pellets (20) per trigger pull, while most other Shotguns fire 10 or less. The Iconic Shotgun: The Headsman also does this as well, but it needs to be crafted, and has other drawbacks like holding one less round. The Carnage can be obtained rather easily, after a quick boss fight.

The way this Build works is that you’ll stack damage reduction, and Armor and go into combat Terminator style blasting everyone in your path. You’ll get stronger and stronger after each kill thanks to Cold Blood, making things die faster and faster, and you take less and less damage.

Additionally, Carnage absolutely knocks enemies on their ass even from medium distances, disrupting their attacks on you. And, a lot of times, if you have a Carnage with a damage type that can set Burning or Poisoned, they’ll just bleed out while laying their if they didn’t die from the initial shot. The one drawback to this Build is that reloading takes a long time, and you’ll need to find some cover while reloading.

Maximum Carnage Tips
Learn to shoot at enemies that are farther away than you should be able to hit them when you have no place to cover. This will knock them down, preventing you from taking further fire while you close the distance to them. You can shoot much further than you think with this Build, and just a couple pellets need to hit to knock them down.

Switch targets immediately after firing if you are close up, even if you don’t kill the target. A lot of times they will have like 10 or 20 percent of their health left, but they’ll be knocked down and have Poison or Burn if you have Chemical or Thermal damage on your Carnage. This means they’ll bleed out before they get up, so there is not much worry.

Turrets can be a pain in the ass with this Build, but you can ignore them until the end of most fights since they won’t kill you easily. It usually takes 2 or 3 shotgun blasts to kill them, and it’s not worth it if you’re taking gunfire from other enemies while doing so. Clear out the other enemies, and then come back and finish them off.

Reloading can be a pain in the butt with this Build, and but remember with the right Perks you can Reload while Sprinting at your target, so there is no need to slow down. Keep moving fast, and get to your target while you reload, saving time and keeping your Cold Blood buff up. This will be easier to do later in the game, but you need to stay on the move early on to keep it going.

Lastly, learn to hipfire with the weapon, especially during reloads. You don’t always need to aim to get a good shot off, so learn how to fire out of a reload to kill someone that is unloading into you. Sometimes it’s worth interrupting the reload to get a kill.

  1. Two things I would like to add since my first build was very similar to this:

    1) After you start getting some money it will be worth it to get the Leg Cyberware that increases your jumping height. A mediocre sniper can ruin your day with this build but if you can just jump up to their level it makes for a great surprise…on them!

    2) If you're fortunate enough to find, buy, or build a second shotgun, it can be faster to switch weapons than to reload early on when you don't have the reload Perks. The buffs from Berzerk (if you have it) and/or Cold Blood will make up for the fact that the weapon itself isn't as good, especially in the early levels of the game.

    Great video!

  2. Great to see a shotgun build mate! Carnage is great but just too slow for my taste. I'm doing a Shotgun run and my weapon of choice is Headsman. Way faster and way more fun imo. The dismember is just hillarious.
Body, tech and cool, stacking all speed buffs to run around like a mad men ripping enemies limbs! Too much fun!

  3. Tech shotgun users: We can charge our shots and shoot through cover.
Smart shotgun users: We can lock onto our enemies, there's nowhere to hide.
Power shotgun users (especially the Carnage): LOL, shotgun go boom.

  4. Pretty much my build for my first playthrough. Except I didn't go Cool route. I went with crafting to max out crit chance and crit damage percentages. He's the shotgun engineer. Has a legendary cyberdeck that rips off debuff quickhacks that spread everywhere and then I bull rush, each kill making him faster and faster which also sub-sequentially makes him stronger the faster he gets. Playing on the hardest difficulty and I can tell you its a cake walk. Not to mention kereznikov cyberware makes it a lot more fun

  5. Since you are going into Cool with this build, you can also pick up the double poison damage in Stealth. If you then use any shotgun with chemical damage, you'll get more one shot kills as the target dies to poison while being staggered. Can also be paired with throwing out a contagion hack before running in. Then you might even want the "poison makes enemies slow" perk too, for a bit of crowd control effect.

The Carnage might actually be overkill, since it's so unwieldy. The other pump shotty or the Crusher are much more versatile. And the double barrel and smart shotties have interesting options as well. The Crusher is a 12 round magazine feed, so it has very little downtime for reloading. Also, you might as well use an LMG for a long range option. So get one with chemical damage and the poison damage perk to maximize that effectiveness too.

  6. its single player, the AI is shit, so i cant help but to wonder what the reason about 'builds' are? no1 cares but yourself right? theres no absolute goal in the game , no end game, i really cant see the why anyone would make different builds for a rather short single player game with no end game in mind

  7. Meh. Ok when you want use power Shotgun, going Engineering is not good, but Reflex, cause crit chance? You can boost your crit chance to 100% from armor mods and from Stealth and Cold Blood perks. Intelligence is even more stupid choice, cause run and gun playstyle is better with Berserk or Sandevistan. You don't need cyberdeck and quickhacks. Go with smart shotgun, put 18 attribute points into Tech ability, in late-game craft Ba Xing Chong shotgun.
