Read more about Cyberpunk 2077➜ https://cyberpunk2077.mgn.tv

We compare the HDR vs SDR presentation of Cyberpunk 2077 on the Playstation platform, using two Sony XH90 (also marketed as the BRAVIA X900H in the USA) 4K LED LCD TVs, two Sony PS5 consoles, as well as two copies of Cyberpunk 2077 PS4 version.

Our HDR vs SDR comparison was done after installing hotfix/ patch 1.05 on two PS5s.

  1. Great video! I would really like to see a video like this for Demons Souls for PS5. I just can't make the hdr look right in that game (on my LG OLED C7). Many people on different forums are also having issues, but I can't find any good videos (like the ones you make) about this.

  2. I think HDR in gaming is broken full stop until they all come around to the HGiG standard. At the moment every dev is doing different things and as a result some games look amazing and others either look washed out or over-saturated, even after you calibrate them as best you can using the (usually inadequate) test image provided in-game.

  3. Hi vincent, when calibrating the sdr on thr sony x900h did you use gamma of -2 or 0? i usually use -2 for tv watching but unsure what is correct for games. thanks and great video as always!

  4. CDPR probably just set the black level wrong as many companys still do. If you set your TV set to BLacklevel low it they grey veil dissapears and the highlights punch. Almost too punchy for my taste

  5. It’s odd.. When I turn on HDR, my colors definitely look better (my HDR basically looks like your SDR and SDR looks like your HDR (washed out)). However, dark areas are too dark and bright areas and objects are too bright no matter what I do. So the colors are good, but the contrast is all over the place. And in some scenes, it looks like there’s a smoke-like (or I guess a white) filter over the screen

  6. I haven't been very impressed with what I'm seeing of HDR yet. Granted I haven't seen it yet on a TV but given how much 'HDR' content appears to be just flat out broken or sources try an convert SDR to HDR at detriment of the creators intent, I wonder how many people have actually seen true HDR anyway?

Also, when it comes to things like this comparison, yes this HDR is broken but we use the example of metal wire in front of a lamp being able to at least retain its detail in HDR, only it isn't realistic. If you looked at a floodlight or streetlight in real life, you would also not be able to see the metal because of the brightness of the light. I don't believe HDR should exceed what a person can see, often that appears to be the case unfortunately.

  7. First thing I noticed in the game. Often times the sdr version is better. Really annoying. They need to work on hdr. Hope they’ll have the time to make it great. On PC. Seriously, good points. Game doesn’t seem made with hdr in mind at all. Way more contrast with sdr. I’m running hdr midpoint at 1 as well just from eyeballing it. But still not great

  8. Mine looks better in HDR on the LG OLED with Cyberpunk on PC. Really don't know if the XH90 looks that bad on HDR by default or if it's the PS5, but the game works perfectly fine with HDR, it does NOT look like in your comparison at all.

  9. Vincent why aren't you adjusting the brightness setting on the tv to lower blacks to something suited to the capabilities of the display. Its clear the in game controls cant compensate for this so use the tools you have available.

BTW Im playing through in SDR as HDR just looks garbage on my C9.

  10. Mhm, when you switched to SDR on the HDR ps5, it still looked like the blacks were elevated. Maybe this HDR convertion on the PS5 is messing up the HDR of the game. Could the problem be the PS5 isntead of the game ?

  11. This game is a broken mess. CDPR claims to have developed this over 8 yrs and what they shipped at launch were something that looked more like it was in an alpha stage.
If they indeed developed this over such long time and could not make it better upon release they are lacking any form of talent, but I doubt they are this bad in programming and stuff and probably were playing around with dildos in the office for the first 5 yrs or so.

  12. Why would the black floor be elevated when the game is set to output in SDR and the PS5 upconverts it to HDR? Wouldn't this eliminate the raised blacks caused by CDPR's implementation of HDR?

  13. I'd really like to see an analysis of 2 older games where the HDR seemed really problematic for me, Blair Witch, and A Plague Tale Innocence. The former seeing very washed out and the latter having really low peak brightness. Have you ever analysed those?

  14. I appreciate the vids! On my XSX the game plays and looks better when in HDR. I’m using a LG CX 55. I did obviously have to calibrate. But after calibration the HDR image looks 10 times better. Settings in game are 800 top nits, 1.5 for the curve.
