Recently Kallie Plagge of Gamespot released her Review of Cyberpunk 2077 and along with it came a video in which she herself admitted to not properly inspecting several mechanics of the game. The Quartering then released a video covering that and as a result numerous IGN and Gamespot Journos are now attempting to weaponize their fan base in an attempt to deplatform him in order to silence and punish him for his critique. This controversy is pathetic.

  1. So, a bunch of dying websites that lost the relevancy years ago are using a criticism of a NOT review (that tried to portray itself as a review) to help drum up some amount of relevance now… when that never worked before…?

Wonder why these review sites are going under…/facepalm

  2. So, essentially, she played the game like she appears to live life, as lazily as possible. She shouldn't have been writing a review(and getting paid for it), if she wasn't willing to actually play the game. The Quartering was just calling it, not just as he saw it, but exactly how she wrote it. Never once did he degrade her as a person, just her crappy review. WHICH IT WAS! For so called Gaming Industry Professionals and "journalists" to turn around and HARRASS the Quartering is both ridiculous and unprofessional. As a female gamer it really irks me when people pull the female card…. especially when not warranted. She gives actual female gamers a bad name. She needs to find a new job, because a game reviewer she isn't!

  3. Eh the game IS mediocre and this is coming from 20 hours of gametime and Im not even done with the main story. It really is a "superficial openworld". Although I understand the criticism for parts of her review, which is warranted.

  4. So she played the game, a huge RPG, like most of us do, enjoying some content, and ignoring the stuff she had no interest in, and was honest about that fact, didn't hide it.
I don't think a reviewer has to 100% a game to be able give a valid opinion on that game, just playing the main games story is enough, as long as it's clear that's what was done.
No Sid Alpha you are wrong, reviewers never have to play every character, and all the content, to critique such a huge game, unless they claim that's what they did, and she does not.
Your, and TheQuatering's anti "Games Media" bias is on full display here. if this was a YouTuber's opinion, you'd have no damn problem with them not doing everything.

  5. Okay, I can't believe I'm going to sitck up for IGN. Though, I just want to correct one thing. The Pokemon review was an issue not with the actual review, but with whomever shorterned it in the end conclusion. "To much Water" was actually meant to be "To much Water type Pokemon". That could've actually been understood if people actually read the review, and not just scroll to the bottom. As much as I agree with a lot of what you're saying here, spreading misinformation is not what I'd expect from this channel.

  6. Dude, cover Cyberpunk…. only reason not to cover CDPR as a potential dirty dev is being fanboy. Tons of bugs, broken promises in advertising, confusing release schedule that everyone took full advantage of, stock losses around 25% that dipped twice in 2 months, framerates issues.

I mean come on dude. I spent 5 minutes punching all the glass in a window last night cause when I hit it once and tried to jump through the window I got launched like 7 blocks away (somehow didn't die and had to walk back).

  7. No Sid, the allegations made within the video were not solid. He repeatedly harped on that she "barely played the game" which is ridiculous. Anyone playing the game will also recognise that the crafting system is extraneous and barely implemented. It is a miniscule part of the game. Now, a better review would on commented on its failings – but not engaging with a terrible implemented and barely present side system does not constitute "barely playing the game." Nothing she didn't engage with was a large part of the game.

The only reason her review was targeted is because Cyberpunk fanboys who actually had "barely played the game" (they hadn't played it at all) were upset that their precious got a 7/10.

Get your head out of your ass.

  8. I'm still laughing at these people in the comments : "How dare you even think about criticizing her review!"
When I purchase a game for $60, I'd REALLY enjoy it, if the reviewer at hand could at least give some small iota of a shit about the game. That'd be sick. I typically watch a reviewer to see what the fuck I'm getting in my game, but apparently current day game reviews mean sitting on the main menu for 30 minutes with your thumb up your ass, then get on your pedestal & preach about your totally in-depth, diverse, experience. Seriously, you shot yourself in the foot.

Stop defending this shit, it's pointless. I've seen more passionate reviews sent by random people on Steam… Let that sink in.

  9. Just a thought regarding crafting – I don't get why anyone would play an RPG and not craft stuff aside from a self-imposed challenge playthrough; I done that with Skyrim a few years ago and the slight increase in difficulty aside needing to find gear, the game just felt 'lesser' overall.

  10. The more I play this game, the more I'm starting to see what she meant.
Her delivery, is awful especially for someone who calls themselves a game journalist.

Her arguments are at the level of first grade child describing a toy they don't like.

    1. Once the game opens up after few main story quests player gets spammed to death by various text messages and phone calls with new side quests. From npcs that player never interacted with. It feels forced and disconnected from the story.
How did they get my number? Why are they giving me all these jobs? Who are they?

    2. Weapons: since I like to pick up every piece of trash in my games, I have purple guns just after completing few main story missions. Feels like these were too easy to come by and I don't feel the drive to go into crafting because of that.
    3. Loot: it's everywhere… Just by opening every crate I have more first aid kits than I can count which makes me almost immortal since I can spam them to my hearts content.

    4. I feel like this game suffers from ubisoft syndrome: drown player in meaningless side activities to create false impression of immersive, interactive world.

Don't get me wrong, I still like this game and enjoy it despite its flaws.
I'm furious at CDPR for destroying my trust in them as the only Dev who cared about its customer base. The fact that last gen consile versions are almost unplayable is shocking.

Despite all those reasons, Kalle "I barely touched it – title of my sex tape" Plagges comments are below any journalistic standard.

She sounds like she was expecting next Sims game and once she realised it's not it, she skipped what the game had to offer while pouting.

She genuinely sounds not interested in the product before she even picked it up. And that's the problem that The Quartering had with her and so do I.

All the critique of CDPR is especially harsh since we are all looking at cyberpunk through our Witcher experiences. Game that was close to perfection. The world, every quest, every character, random details that made the world alive and immersive.
By comparison cyberpunk is… Ok at best.
This is perfect example of what happens with a company when it becomes corporation. Success of the Witcher series became their downfall. Which is horrible to watch by a long time fan of CDPRs products.

  11. Critiquing as a profession surely requires extraordinary attention to detail to relay the foibles and follies as well as express the areas of excitement and achievements within a game to the consumer who will purchase that game. Sure it can be subjective but one must have experienced the whole sum before relaying that as objectively as you can or else ur just pissing into the wind and wasting everyone's, not of least your own, time.

  12. Its amazing how they accuse Jeremy of doing the things they do to him. Like I understand the need for them to stick together because they are all irrelevant because people like Skill Up and Yong Yea do their job better but come on.

Yes the game has some issues. I'm kind of disappointed that some of the rpg features feel cut and stuff but I'm having a good time at what's there. I just want more of it. More story, more side jobs. More augmentation. CP2077 is a great shell that just needs to have more to more soul added to it and CDPR said they have stuff coming so I feel like CP2077 is going to be the deus ex, ghost in the shell power fantasy ive always wanted.

Kallie though….she just shouldn't be a reviewer. You have to be willing to jump into systems and games to understand them fully. Im 30 hours in with 2 different characters and builds and my netrunner feels incredibly different from my gun toting merc build. She actively just didn't want to engage with the game and thats no ones fault for her with not engaging with the product.

  13. If you were a professional film critic and you reviewed a film saying "I didn't watch it all, there were scenes I skipped because I didn't have any interest, I watched about 6 minutes of the film and turned it off before the end 7/10" you would be laughed at and FIRED!

  14. I just don't understand things like this. You've got people PAID to review games who just seem to not care/not like them, you've got others who question the usefulness of those articles/reports/vids/etc. and then the person asking the questions gets blindly destroyed.

  15. I no longer use IGN as a resource they are a bunch of people who don't play the games and just review by what they see. I don't like the looks of this game its not my type shit I don't even play games but I will still give a review I need to get paid so I will just lie about it. Stopped about 4 years ago they have gone down hill.

  16. Honestly, fuck this comment section. On another note, I can't believe I find myself siding with The Quartering in this situation. Normally I cant stand his man-child behavior.

  17. This is a huge problem. "Journalists" that don't investigate or act know anything they're talking about. Imagine if a food critic said they didn't eat half the meal because they didn't feel like having vegetables, or a movie critic slept through half the film because they didn't feel like watching a horror movie. The biggest irony is that the game deserved a harsh critique but these people at the big companies like Gamespot and IGN, are actually incompetent.

  19. shes a boring gamer chick that probably just played the game because she was getting paid to write a review. it didnt seem like she wanted to play the game, it seemed like she went about playing ENOUGH of the game to give a review, just like most college kids do when they write a paper. i found her review too technical and boring. it was just a bunch of complaining.

  20. Could you imagine if film critics were like this?

Film Critic: I thought Jurassic Park was a terrible movie. Even though I only saw a fourth of it, and I got up to use the bathroom at least three times during that. Also, I was only paying attention to the scenes that had Jeff Goldblum in them. I mean, the movie is freakin' boring. Where are all the dinosaurs? I only saw like two dinosaurs in the entire movie. What's up with that? I don't even care that this movie is supposed to have dinosaurs, but it totally advertised dinosaurs. So, like, where's all the dinosaurs? Worst dinosaur movie ever.

Also, before anyone goes "But the game is actually very flawed" or something along those lines, let me make something clear. That's not an excuse. If a game is absolutely unplayable, that's one thing. But, the critic should make that very clear in his/her review. Simply choosing not to even do the bare minimum of side-quests, gameplay, etc. isn't the same thing. If a game has major flaws, is buggy, or lacks any replayable content, then it's the critic's job to inform the consumer where these issues are in the entirety of said game. That way, the consumer can make a more informed choice on whether or not a game is worth buying. And, the consumer doesn't risk buying a game without knowing, say, for example, it crashes if you try to save right before the first boss fight.

Apologies if this got a bit long, but I wanted to get my two cents in.

  21. Sid. Your honest critique alongside that of Jim Stirling, Mac from Worrh a Buy and TheQuartering are among my go to sources here on the platform.
In a sea of trite content you all seem to keep it real without selling out.
Totalibiscuit still leaves a hole but collectively you guys fill that space pretty well.
Keep up the good work, very much appreciated!

  22. The game has it's problems, and I'd even squint at the idea of giving it a 7/10…

Personally, I wouldn't even give it a score. I'm tired of devs pushing games out in this condition. It needs to be fixed, polished, and actually done. It doesn't deserve even the 7/10 right now. I have faith CDPR will figure this crap out and fix it, but who knows really anymore. I never thought they'd release it like it is, so…

Anyway, this chick didn't review the game she was paid to review. Period. End of story. She deserves serious criticism for this. Her review was about as done as the game is.

People are really really dumb right now lol, if you hate on the game, you're just simping for the reviewer, if you're hating on the reviewer, you're just a fanboy for the game.

    Get real people.

  23. She was right in the end, the game is so poorly complete, why would you make the effort to look into like weapons or crafting. The crafting is broken. The game was buggy. And reviewers were given the game last minute ONLY on PC on purpose.
