Cyberpunk 2077 Ray Tracing ON vs OFF – RTX 3080 4K Graphics Comparison

Cyberpunk 2077 is a vast game and I soaked into it heavily.
Durng playthrough I noticed a montage of scenes which seems to be made entirely oin real time therefore they are perfect for graphics comparison. Are yoy ready for a quick Cyberpunk 2077 Ray Tracing ON vs OFF Graphics Comparison?

Gameplay (Maxed out settings in 4K) captured on PC with following specs:

Nvidia GeForce RTX 3080 Founders Edition: https://www.nvidia.com/pl-pl/shop/geforce/gpu/?page=1&limit=9&locale=pl-pl&category=GPU&gpu=RTX%203080

  1. ray tracing has substitutes in the past and still but once it is applied a big cost is paid so I guess it's not time for it.Once mid range cards can handle it without a big cost then will say " now we are talking"

  2. The differences seem small, but it really does add a lot to immersion when playing the game. Def at a huge cost, but if you can play with it on and get acceptable FPS. It's worth it IMO. 2:58 really shows the benefits.

  3. I’m use to the graphics for games like Killing Floor 2 and League of Legends with my RTX 2080 MQ, so RTX off still looks great 😂
If I can get 10+ FPS with RTX off I would prefer that.

  4. This is one of those things where our baked in effects are such a mature tech that it's going to take some time and effort to really make the most of raytracing. The weird thing for me was that, despite having RTX reflections on I found that reflective surfaces still don't reflect character models, which means that they're exempt. Kind of an odd choice.

Ultimately while RTX makes a huge difference in a game that otherwise doesn't effectively use ambient occlusion and real-space reflection, this game clearly does and the raytrace is just a performance hit for almost no reason. I also have trouble understanding why the game defaults to having lens flare on when the game is an orgy of neon lights just constantly sweeping across your field of vision.

  5. This is where YouTube compression makes seeing the changes harder. The biggest benefit to raytracing is being a replacement for SSAO. Using the included SSAO in games you get an unwanted grainy look to a lot of surfaces in this game. Making everything less sharp and dirty. RT for the most part fixes all of that but at the cost of performance.

  6. Am I the only one that thinks it looks better with RTX off? From this video, it looks like the colors are richer/vibrant with RTX OFF. With RTX ON it looks kinda dull/flat/less depth…
