As 2020 has come to a close, two game releases over the year in particular stand out as real pop culture events: Naughty Dog’s The Last of Us Part II, and CD Project Red’s Cyberpunk 2077. Though fans of neither game will admit it, they’re actually more similar than you might think. But one is, by all objective measurements, a better game than the other – if, that is, you can set politics aside long enough to see it.

In this longer length follow-up to my recent hit video on Cyberpunk, I try to explain without getting in trouble with “Gamers” why neither Cyberpunk nor Steve Bannon has your back, and why TLOU2 doesn’t really want to ruin games forever.

Both titles wear their politics on their sleeve, sure. But I argue one of them only uses political posturing purely (and emptily) as a means to an end. Only the other actually has something to say.

Only one of them was ready to launch, and only one of them deserves such widespread “Gamer” outrage. Yet both exemplify the all too modern tendency for “Gamers” to judge a release before it’s even playable, making them incredibly easy to manipulate, and surprisingly oppositional to their own medium’s growth.

“Cyberpunk 2077 is a role-playing game by CD Projekt RED. It was announced on May 30, 2012 during CD Projekt’s Summer Conference live-stream. The development team includes veterans of The Witcher and The Witcher 2 teams at CD Projekt RED.

Not much has been revealed about the fundamental gameplay, but CD Projekt has shared a few details. Players will be able to create and customize their own characters including different classes, which are said to impact the story. Both the story and structure of the game will be non-linear. The game will use a combination of both first person and third person views.

Multiplayer features are also confirmed; however, the developer claims that it will nevertheless be a “story-based RPG experience,” with “amazing single-player play-throughs.”

CD Projekt Red have confirmed that Cyberpunk 2077 will be made using REDengine 3, the same engine used for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.

During E3 2018 CD Projekt RED announced that the game will be a shooter played from the first-person perspective, shifting to third person during cutscenes. There will also be an option to switch to a third person camera when driving. A work-in-progress gameplay video was released to the public in August 2018.

Cyberpunk was officially released December 10, 2020. After a rocky launch, on December 17, 2020 Sony Interactive Entertainment removed the game from their storefront and began offering unconditional refunds to all purchasers. Industry insiders described this as “unprecedented” and “a huge yikes.”‘

“The Last of Us 2 is a stealth action adventure game with a heavy focus on story.”

  1. You forget:

TLOU2 took what was great from the previous game and rapes it. Just completely and utterly destroys it. Look at the crowd. No one is talking about it with the hype that followed the 1st game for years.

Cyberpunk 2077 is a new IP for these defenders and so they can play damage control (I don't support it) because there is no previous established work in the IP that was so good that this game went and destroyed it.

  2. Thi game is literally just like any Ubisoft style open world game that we’ve gotten this whole generation with even less polish. It’s the style of Open World “RPG”, (emphasis on the qoutation marks) that Skyrim popularized. And I hate Skyrim, and most games like it. So why is this game considered great?

  3. Gamergate was an attempt to drive out muh fellow nonhuwites, nonbinareee and bla bla out of the capital g community.
Low iq perspective on a complicated issue about corruption in media.
    Cringe.

  4. I like your mgs content, but you're so dishonest! That girl that reviewed the game wasn't complaining about glitches and missing content, she said that sHe dIDn'T wAnT tO hElP tHe pOlIcE and didn't want to do side quests or crafting. Oh and LoU2 is absolutely pushing social Justice.
Neil Druckmann " No can do. Writers work off of their views of the world. For example TLoU is very much inspired by my personal politics."

  5. There is an equal amount of gay romance options (arguably the most dedicated romance quest and maybe the most liked character is only availabe to a "lesbian" character). The city is full of cricisms of unregulated capitalism and leaving it is the best option. The guy in your head, which you most likely >befriend< at some point is LITERALLY an anti-corporation >terrorist<.

Right wing messaging sure has moved somewhat left…

The messaging of this game is clearly very left or would be in a reasonable world. (Of course it's still shallow and made for consumtion, not some deep message.)

The marketing also wasn't pandering to the right, it just didn't pander to "the left". Like, some people were outraged at one poster in the game. And while I understand that this picture was in poor taste for some people, it fits the style on the game, which shows the sexualisation and exploitation of all kinds of people. And since when is an oversexualised trans person something "the right" wants to see in their games?

PS: I hate that people today think that authors need to slap you in the face with "a statement" as if people couldn't think for themselves and needed to be told what to think. Who comes away from Night City and thinks: "Corporate dominance sure is cool"? Do we need a big red "That's bad" sign after Takemura told us about his childhood?
Maybe some "LGBT people have it much harder than you" after Judy told us how she was rejected in her childhood?

  6. I never played the original Last of us but I thought the squeakquel looked good from playthroughs, it was dope when the man died I didn't see it coming. Despite that I'd be more inclined to play Cyberpunk

  7. The fact that people keep thinking the overall theme of the video is “cyberpunk is right wing” just shows that most haven’t even bothered to watch past the 5-10 minute mark.

  8. OVERHYPE 2077 is worst compared to the one that everybody loves to hate on(TLOU2) which actually delivered as for OVERHYPE 2077 to which you'll find a shit ton of promises in articles and how it was hyped up and didn't even deliver.

  9. No. I'd still rather play Cyberpunk. I'll at least give it a chance once it's finished and on the $19.99 value rack, but I'll never touch another game Druckmann is involved in.

  10. Nice way to flush your "gaming" channel by bringing in politics. Brilliant! Havent's you been paying attention how fast games that go political flush down the drain ? LOL!!

  11. Im sorry man but this is just not a very well put together video, the game is not nealry as politically driven as you make it seem. Anti corporation does not equal right leaning, and even if it is its not shoving it down your throat as you have the option to have V join the corpos and literally help them by the end of the game

  12. I liked this video, the contrast being drawn between TLoU2's and Cyberpunk's respective reactions and receptions is quite interesting. Especially for how extreme reactions in the past have been for smaller transgressions, No Man's Sky being my tentpole example

  13. Wait so how do gamers feel though. Has anyone thought about listening to the gamers??? They're clearly the most level headed, sane group of people on the internet. Unless someone disagrees with them, so just dont do that and it will all be fine

  14. Question: How can literally every single one of you who watched this channel agree with EVERY OTHER VIDEO he posted, and then now, this is the point where you disagree?

He's right. TLOU2 is 100% a better game than Cyberpunk. Hands down. For every reason he actually describes in the video.

  15. I get that you're butthurt about everyone hating TLOU2 but there's a lot of legitimate criticisms you can raise against gaming culture without resorting to lies and gaslighting.

  16. CDPR didn't strike people down for talking about their game. That's why naughty dog is still getting hate, interesting you ignored that entirely. Also, what does the election of Donald Trump have to do with… Well, ANY of this? Another thing: Neil comparing last of us 2 to MGS2 is nonsense. Raiden didn't savagely murder Solid Snake, with the amount of metal gear videos you make that should have occurred to you.

  17. Uh. Jeez. I doubt I'll enjoy this one. You usually make great videos. I'm like 10 minutes in and think you're astoundingly wrong.

I suppose I'll watch the rest. But fuck dude.

And no, before you ask I'm not a cdpr defender. I was destroyed by cp77. But I accept what we got.

However. While the last of us 2 is a tighter experience(no bugs probably) I know cp77 is more fun.

  18. Ah… oh… ok. This channel is like that now. Unsub for the time being but I'll check back from time to time to see if comes back to the cool Metal Gear deep dives…

  19. I think you're the first person here that explained to me why people hate this game because of it's "agenda".. and it was as stupid as i thought it was. but regardless, I was totally prepared for you to bash tlou 2 like so other many youtube channels, but alas was pleasantly surprised. The haters of this game is ridiculous.. some people didn't even play the game, while half of them hated it for "political" reasons.

  20. The last of us part 2 is great game that did everything it needed to do and more a masterpiece and one of the best games out there , cyberpunk 2077 is a trash I don’t know why some people are still defending it , thank you dude for making this video to show off how hypocritical gamers can be .

  22. But in reality you can't compared a finished polished game with dark story(TLOU 2) & unfinished cash grab in our modern history that's ridiculous(Cyberpunk 76). Over censorship & cancel culture are ruining the world especial entertainment.

  23. Oh my that is so sad he saw a video IDF soldiers being killed :;(
Nevermind the fact that the lynchings took place at a funeral for the 2 dozen children IDF soldiers slaughtered because they were throwing rocks at them and the IDF refused to intervene when the lynching took place and instead opted to shell the entire area later killing many unrelated to the incident.
I bet you his horror was complete when he witnessed mutliple videos of IDF soldiers killing children and unarmed civilians right?

  24. To be frank, i've only played the game for a few hours before i laid it on the shelf in hopes they'll fix the bugs. But i didn't really get an impression for any right leaning ideology being pushed on me, marketing or gamewise, even if it's present. All i see is just dystopia future city world with crooks n shit
