My among us head canon: The "little crewmates" are a species of tiny aliens called Chinren, that are not fully grown yet. Chinren during their very young years have a tendency to follow around whom they consider to be their parents. When their original parent dies however, they then remain stationary next to the body. However, if they see another figure that seems much larger than them approaching, they may consider that potential parent to be their original. Due to how they follow their "parents" around, it goes to show how extremely dependent they are on them. If their "parent" is the imposter, they are also infected with that same virus, possibly due to them being constantly near them, though it's very minor, and doesn't pose much of a threat. The Chinren are extremely naive, being easily manipulated, even when a murder us committed in front of them. However, they are NOT devoid of emotion, and in fact, their emotions are 10x more potent than any human.
The main reason why Chinren look like their parents suit and color, is possibly due to the fact of their minor shapeshifting abilities.
