Did Google Kill Stadia Studios Because of Microsoft/Bethesda Deal? – IGN Daily Fix

Today on the Daily Fix, Google has pointed towards Microsoft’s acquisition of Bethesda as a factor in its decision to close first-party Stadia studios. While the connection is unclear, Google may be changing its strategy, opting to buy out franchises and game studios rather than creating their answer to series like Fallout and The Elder Scrolls. Microsoft is continuing its work to expand accessibility in gaming, first with the Adaptive Controller, and now with new development guidelines. These guidelines should streamline the process of creating more widely accessible games and even introduce methods for developers to get feedback from Microsoft and the Xbox team directly. And last but certainly not least, we take a look at some off-the-wall moments from Tony Hawk 3, presented by Pacifico.

  1. I hate the way Google does business. As a Stadia service user, I am losing faith in the platform more and more as the days go by. Probably should have bailed out long before but I didn't. *sigh*

  2. Ofcourse it is Microsoft's fault that they bought some well known studios to give gamers bigger range & better made games for cheaper(with gamepass); instead of trying to RESELL games people already own like Stadia wanted… Maybe they should also blame "Geforce Now" since it seems they are also doing pretty well just by letting people play whatever game they already have. Time to rethink google, next time try to have less of a "money maker" brain and try to win "players" instead of trying to win "double dip wanna be" companies…

  3. I mean isn’t this googles way of saying that they were targeting zenimax for acquisition and lost? To shut down studios because a competitor acquired a large studio only makes sense if you lost the bid and the acquisition was a primary factor in your business plan.

  4. The connection is, they should have bought franchises instead of creating a studio and original ip. Like final fantasy on playstation back in the day. A no brainer for rpg fans.

  5. Doesn't matter what Google does now. if Google buys anyone, consider them dead and gone. No dev in their right mind will join google after they closed their own studios.
