Did I Fix PS5 Coil Whine? In a previous video I diagnosed my PS5 coil whine as actually coming from one of the capacitors. In this video I’m replacing a couple of the capacitors and as well as adding some silicone adhesive to reduce the noise. Remember, don’t try this at home – taking apart a power supply can be dangerous.

  1. Amazing video man ! I just received my 4th PS5 Unit and it still has this really annoying buzzzing from the PSU, Sony knows of this issue but they won't follow Microsoft to do the same in their PSU's
So im gonna try to fix it myself with the help of this video !
A question i have is @TronicsFix, Does only silicone kit and tie-wraps reduce this noise some levels ?

  2. With capacitors in parallel you can just add the values to get a total value (e.g. 1nF in parallel to 100pF = 1.1nF in total). The voltage on the label is it's max voltage specification. If you use higher voltage rated ones you should be fine. The type of capacitor has effects on it's charge/discharge behavior.

IMO the grey capacitors rated 630V max voltage should have been fine as long as they had the same capacity value as the original ones. Your solution will also work as long as the total capacity of your solution is similar as the total capacity of the original solution. Using a smaller capacitor in combination with a larger one could actually be an advantage, since the smaller capacitor can most probably charge quicker.

I'd still be curious to see you using the grey ones, since they seem to have the same size as the original ones? Can't you take out the power supply without touching the cooling solution?

  3. I have a disc version in the UK. I have noticed a constant low 'whistling' sound coming from my PS5 as soon as I switch it ON. When I start a game from the home screen the sound increases in pitch. I do sit about eight to nine feet back from my PS5 and can still hear it. Any ideas guys?

  4. I really don't think the cap is causing the problem. It is the inductor which is probably being used in a regulation circuit. The pulsing of the inductor next to it will cause a stray magnetic field and cause a buzzing in components next to it, or that are connected to it. Shielding it may resolve the problem, or, just add a small bypass capacitor in parallel to the blue capacitor to drain the noise.

  5. The RAM running hot, coil whine, fan noise and general unavailability plus the fact that the 36 months of game pass ultimate conversion is very interesting at the moment made me switch to Series X. I'm just gonna wait till a revision or slim/pro model pops up.

  6. Hey it would be really interesting if you could test if the different fans on a ps5 have better cooling than one another. Like if the louder fan is better at cooling than the quieter one. No one has done this and I think people want to know.
