I’m not buying a PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X and you (likely) shouldn’t either. Here’s why.

A lot of people in my community have asked me about my stance on this upcoming generation of consoles. With the releases of the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X having recently passed, I thought it was an appropriate time for me to be straightforward with y’all about why I, as a fighting game fan, am still not sold on the next generation of consoles yet.

  1. "SFV was released 3 years after the release of both the XBO and the PS4."
No. The consoles were released in December 2013. SFV was released in February 2016. That's way closer to 2 years than 3.

Also, the PS4 became the FGC standard way sooner than at the release of SFV, because USFIV was ported to the PS4 in 2015, and the console already had MKX, DOA5LR and Guilty Gear Xrd. The first competitive circuit on MKX was on Xbox, which was the console chosen by ESL to run the tournament (the tour was also sponsored by Microsoft). But then, NRS followed the community, and decided to do PS4 tournaments instead. So, it was way less obvious than "we have to do what Street Fighter did".
