  1. I think you miss interpretated be getting used to weather change in getting used to seeing dead bodies… I don't think that they will not have negative thoughts I just think that overtime if they see a constantly they will get used to…. Also it's a none living non vampires Which means we stood still see vampires impossibly where beast they just won't be any other non living creatures like zombies or resurrected corpses…

  2. Liking and commenting so you'll be promoted in the youtube algorithms! I do think Dwarves should get some stress from seeing corpses or certain dwarves would be more prone to stress. I think just lessening the stress effect for seeing bodies overall would have been best but we have less psychotic dwarves now so I guess that's good too.

Keep up the good work! I really enjoy seeing the updates to DF, thank you!

  3. started playing dwarf fortress again lately. theres so much i still dont know. like that werebeasts can infect my dwarves. found out the hard way since I focused on crafting and neglected military. lost dozens of dwarves as a result. and now everyone is depressed by the piles of corpses outside the fort.

  4. For as long as I have been playing, dwarfs could get used to combat and once used to combat they would also be used to dead bodies. It’s just that they couldn’t get used to seeing already dead bodies. This leads to a situation where it is optimal to expose your dwarfs to combat and killing so that they don’t get stressed by dead bodies. You can argue about PTSD being realistic, but it shouldn’t be more likely to happen from running into a goblin’s dead body than from seeing your best friend decapitated in front of your eyes.

In short, regardless of how you feel about how much stress battlefields should cause, it doesn't make sense that a battlefield would be more stressful after the battle than during the battle. And that is precisely how it worked in prior versions.

  5. Haven't meal thoughts been buggy for a long time? If I remember correctly, quality had no bearing on happy thoughts, and dwarves couldn't identify their favorite foods in meals, in some cases.

Also happy about the corpses change. This will make it easier for me to have dedicated clean-up crews. I'm sure dwarves that rarely see bodies will still be ruined for life.

Now if they can only fix the issues with need for prayers, then we'll be great.

  6. On the dead bodies and PTSD.
I saw a vid with someone who worked as a… guy who collects dead people. Mortician? Gravekeeper?
Dunno, that job. If someone dies, go check if they're are dead, get papers in order and drive the corpse to their workplace to prepare it for burial.
Putting on suits, bathing the body, that sort of stuff.

He described it as being super weird at first, but after like a week, he got used to it.
Yeah that person is dead, nothing to it, help me with carrying will ya. That kinda attitude.

So while PTSD sure is a thing, there needs to be trauma for it to happen, sorta in the name. Post TRAUMATIC Stress Disorder.
And becoming jaded to things is a real thing. But it depends on the person, some people are easily freaked out, some just don't give a damn.
Which is modelled in the personalities of the dwarves.

I'd say depending on how much they get used to it, it's just a realistic change.
If it's like "Oh, i've seen 2 dead bodies today, now i never care for it again." Yeah, that's stupid. But change it to like 50, or more correctly 1 body 50 times. it's part of the ordinary.
Sure, it should still give a mood debuff. No sane individual should feel nothing when seeing a dead body.
But when something is part of everyday life, it's the new normal.

That's how really weird households get to where they are. Little steps.
    But i digress.
Dwarves should be less affected by dead bodies as they get used to it, personality should also affect the rate of this.
If it's a strong willed dwarf warlord who sees dead bodies everyday, sure, he'd prefer not to see dead bodies, but it doesn't bother him too much.
If it's a meek librarian who is stressed, yeah getting used to bodies isn't gonna go fast.

  7. in my current fort on the old patch some of my dwarfs are numb to seeing dead body's and cleaning up corpse's if i read the mood log i get the message felt nothing, but I'm not sure if it's a good thing because they might feel nothing at good mood boosts too

  8. On the issue of dead bodies, I personally find my forts collapse the instant there's a single dead body, especially because every time they see any part of a body, regardless of how many times they see it they get the penalty. My current fort dropped from 80fps to 30 thanks to me letting my militia fighting off a small siege and now over half my fort is tantrumming purely from seeing bits of goblin.
So I'm very much in favour of that being reduced/nerfed in any way as it currently renders my forts all but unplayable.

I'm pretty sure the "Dwarves get used to corpses" change was more focused towards dwarves going insane from seeing a room full of corpses repeatedly, i.e. a corpse room filled with whatever creatures/invaders may have attacked in the past. Some dwarves would react to every single dead entity in the room individually, every single time they entered the room, causing a lot of negative thoughts and eventual insanity.

  10. Tbh, I've literally never had migrants from old forts show up, and I don't even play multiple forts on the same world much anyway, so I'm fine with either way on that bit

(Hell yes on the minor memories thing though, I'm sick of them remembering that one time they got rained on and becoming depressed forever)

  11. I think a good compromise for getting used to seeing dead bodies could be that only a certain percentage have the ability to be used to the sight, like 50% can, so some dwarves will never be able to and some can
